The introduction of Faust
Faust is a grand opera in five acts by Charles Gounod to a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Micheal Carré from Carré's play Faust et Marguerite, which is loosely based on Goethe’s Faust, Part 1.
Its first debution was on 19 March 1859, at the Théâtre Lyrique on the Boulevard du Temple in Paris. From 1862 to around 1880s, it became popular in Europe. Ballets had been inserted in it.(mainly from Wikipedia, being edited.

The reflection of Faust
The theme of this opera (from the context version), which I observed is the temptation and desire in our life. Furthermore, it is the conflict between humanity and charity. The original version of the story of Doctor.Faust is about Christian. But in this opera, the significance of godlessness is weakened upon Faust and strengthened upon the leading actress Marguerite.
The character Faust represents the immortal chasing for wise and power. Faust wants to immortalize his life. He tempts to be omniscient and omnipotent. In the first act of the opera, Faust is suffering from the urge of knowledge. However, I believe in actual that he doesn’t want to achieve the top of academic scholar, otherwise he will keep on doing studies instead of suffering in pain. Studying for knowledge is just one step during his
