“Ladies, please have a seat. Gertie, may I have a word with you in private before we eat.”
“It's so good to see you Gertie, you've grown into a beautiful woman. I'm sorry, I didn't get to speak to you yesterday, but Shaddrack was quite insistent that you serve your time with the others. Tell me what happened yesterday and don't gloss over anything, I'll know if you do.”
Gertrude told her the condensed version of what had happened, …show more content…
“Well if you're willing to let it go, I'll let Gwladys off the hook, this time. Let's go eat, you girls must be starved.”
Belinda left them eat in peace and studied the young women. Josie and Chandi she knew, they had once lived in south village, not far from her cottage where she spent most of her time. The two young woman, bored with simple village life had left for Meldopolis two years ago to make a new life for themselves. Badora the dwarf was pretty in the dwarven way, but she appeared a little rough around the edges. Gwladys, while not much older than Gertie, seemed self assured and confident and judging her manner, she was no maiden. She practically oozed sexuality, much like Jayna had when she had first arrived on Morpheus.

Gwladys huffed, “I doubt it, Badora and I wanted to apply for a position as an at-arms with him.”
Belinda was annoyed now, “I doubt he'd even consider you until you've been evaluated by Sato. Most of the knights run everyone past Sato first anymore and if Sato doesn't know you, he won't test you without a recommendation.”
Gwladys stood up angrily, “I've been a warrior since I was a girl, now you tell me I need a recommendation to have some tin can knight even test me to see if I'm worthy.”
Belinda thought 'tin can knight' was an odd expression for a Morphean to use, she doubted most Morpheans had ever even seen a tin can. Her distrust grew.
“You seem to have a bit of a temper Gwladys,” Belinda said. “If you like, I'll test you myself, I haven't had my practice yet today. If you can hold your own, I'll recommend you to Sato myself.”
Gwladys reigned in her anger and tried to look contrite, “I'm sorry for my outburst Lady Belinda, I guess I'm just disappointed is all. I would be very grateful to you for the opportunity to win your
