The Gray Knight Alternate Ending
The Gray Knight was absent the next morning, he'd already set out on his quarterly rounds, but the Lady Belinda appeared in the dungeon early in the morning and graciously invited the prisoners to have breakfast with her. The former prisoners followed Belinda to a little garden courtyard in the center of the castle.
“Ladies, please have a seat. Gertie, may I have a word with you in private before we eat.”
“It's so good to see you Gertie, you've grown into a beautiful woman. I'm sorry, I didn't get to speak to you yesterday, but Shaddrack was quite insistent that you serve your time with the others. Tell me what happened yesterday and don't gloss over anything, I'll know if you do.”
Gertrude told her the condensed version of what had happened,

“Well if you're willing to let it go, I'll let Gwladys off the hook, this time. Let's go eat, you girls must be starved.”
Belinda left them eat in peace and studied the young women. Josie and Chandi she knew, they had once lived in south village, not far from her cottage where she spent most of her time. The two young woman, bored with simple village life had left for Meldopolis two years ago to make a new life for themselves. Badora the dwarf was pretty in the dwarven way, but she appeared a little rough around the edges. Gwladys, while not much older than Gertie, seemed self assured and confident and judging her manner, she was no maiden. She practically oozed sexuality, much like Jayna had when she had first arrived on Morpheus.
“How's the children Aunt Belinda?” Gertrude asked. Belinda was a mother five times over now and she answered with her weary mother's voice. “They keep me busy and Zoey helps me keep her brothers in line, she's tough like her father. I left them at the cottage with Ellyn, so Shaddrack and I could have some alone time before he set off on his rounds.”
Belinda noticed the knowing smirk on Gwladys face, definitely no maiden there.
“Do you think I could talk to him before he leaves?” Gwladys

What's your business with him, perhaps I can help.”
Gwladys huffed, “I doubt it, Badora and I wanted to apply for a position as an at-arms with him.”
Belinda was annoyed now, “I doubt he'd even consider you until you've been evaluated by Sato. Most of the knights run everyone past Sato first anymore and if Sato doesn't know you, he won't test you without a recommendation.”
Gwladys stood up angrily, “I've been a warrior since I was a girl, now you tell me I need a recommendation to have some tin can knight even test me to see if I'm worthy.”
Belinda thought 'tin can knight' was an odd expression for a Morphean to use, she doubted most Morpheans had ever even seen a tin can. Her distrust grew.
“You seem to have a bit of a temper Gwladys,” Belinda said. “If you like, I'll test you myself, I haven't had my practice yet today. If you can hold your own, I'll recommend you to Sato myself.”
Gwladys reigned in her anger and tried to look contrite, “I'm sorry for my outburst Lady Belinda, I guess I'm just disappointed is all. I would be very grateful to you for the opportunity to win your

As the candle flickered in the corner of the room, the shadows danced across the stone wall, casting light upon my aged face. I had sat in darkness for days now, the war becoming worse, and so was my eyes. The silver rimmed cup in my hand trembled, as Parkinsons Disease had taken over my body, I never managed to remain still. As my hair reseeds and my eyes grow tired, I know that it is time for me to leave. My whole life was spent in Manderly and now that it is burnt down, and I have retired, I don’t know what to do. I am just biding my time, waiting for the moment that I will this estate. I only have my memories for company, memories of Sir, Mrs De Winter, Madame Rebecca, Robert and Mrs Danvers. A thousand words will not leave so deep an impression as the first glance, as they are often the truest. The memories of my first glances at the first and second Mrs De Winter now come back to me.…
