The great depression was unprecedented in its length, the wholesale poverty, and tragedy it inflicted on society. During the great depression there were any migrant farm workers. During this time the work of three hundred men could now be done by five. There was less work and more machinery that could handle the wheat harvesting that taking place. Migrants farm workers earned little money along with food and basic accommodation. At the same time as the great depression, there was six years without rain which caused the ‘dust bowl’. Because of the dust bowl, the farmers in Oklahoma, New Mexico and Kansas had no choices but to sell or forfeit their farms to banks and migrate to fertile lands. Migrant farm workers lived from job to job just like the main characters in the novella, Of Mice And Men. The president Franklin Delano Roosevelt helped alleviate the effects of the great depression when he took over president Hoover. He created domestic reform programs, economic policies, agriculture policies and relief policies that helped end the great…
This novella, “Of Mice and Men”, by John Steinbeck unveils reality’s harshest cataclysm of angelic friendship. Diving into the facade, manipulation creeps amongst the red string of fate, opening eyes of the ones who slumber through day. And thus, once the dice of destiny is rolled, all will be eventual.…

Even though the story ends with heartache, it still doesn’t remove the fact that Lennie and George knew that their friendship kept them going. John Steinbeck brings the time period of the 1930s to life in Of Mice and Men. The story captures the tale of two men, George and Lennie, use friendship and a dream to overcome challenges. Piece by piece as challenges add, it ends with serious consequences. Steinbeck displays that weakness leads to cruelty through the characters in Of Mice and Men by Crooks trying to acquire a position over Lennie, Candy’s dog dying, and Curley’s wife speaking to Crooks.…

There were the very few people, like the Finches, who were considered very wealthy. Then there was the Ewells who were pretty much living off of sticks and bones. But there were also the people like the Cunninghams who didn’t have it bad, but didn’t necessarily have it good, either. Being in the middle, they had a few goods, but they struggled a little keeping their shelter or maybe had to miss a meal every so often. Even with all their similarities and differences, just these three families out of a fictional book perfectly describe the life during the Great Depression from multiple…
Many diseases and disorders were not discovered until fairly recent years. This is the case for a disorder called autism. John Steinbeck’s novel “Of Mice and Men” was set during the Great Depression, and the story portrays a man named Lennie with a disorder that people during that time did not understand, so they treated him as if he were mentally impaired. Today, Speech-Language pathologists recognize Lennie as being autistic. “Of Mice and Men” portrays the characteristics of autism and how people who were ignorant of the true disorder crudely handled the situation. This story shows readers how much progress the field of Speech-Language pathology has made in diagnosing and treating people who suffer from autism.…
