The Great Gatsby Pursuit Of Happiness
After studying American Literature, The Pursuit of Happiness seems to be in whatever the characters, or authors make it be. There are several different meanings and ways that authors have pursued their own happiness through either themselves or the characters they write about.After reading and learning about different literary movements I have learned that The Pursuit of Happiness is in always reaching for what you believe in, and in dreaming and pursuing those dreams. The Great Gatsby, Of Mice and Men, and “Walden” all have examples of characters and authors Pursuing their own Happiness by going after their dreams and doing what it takes in order to get there. Gatsby is willing to do almost anything to be close to Daisy so much so that Jordan explains, “Gatsby bought that house so that Daisy would be just across the bay”(chapter4). When Jordan tells Nick this, she soon tells him about Gatsby’s plan to get in touch with Daisy again at Nick’s house. Gatsby finally, after many years gets to pursue his own happiness once again by meeting Daisy once again. This shows that he did not give up on his dreams and goals to see Daisy no matter what it would take. Gatsby is nervous to meet her again but he does not give up on the idea that maybe she feels the same way and wants to see him as well. Quickly after meeting, the two of them connect well and everything seems to go just as Gatsby had hoped. His happiness is quickly being restored to what he had hoped it to be. It has reached this level because of the fact that Gatsby did not give up despite all of the factors against him. Nick quietly leaves them Gatsby and Daisy alone at Gatsby’s house as he sees them connecting and forgetting about him even being there. They seem to be “possessed by intense life”(chapter 5). That seems to show the happiness between the two of them in the most vivid way possible. Gatsby follows his happiness and dreams. Even though the situation does not end up in the way he wishes it to in the end, he still pursues what he believes will help him achieve his highest most
