Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, written by Jamie Ford and published in 2009, tells the story of a relationship between Henry Lee and Kieko Okabe, two middle school aged children caught up in the persecution that was taking place during World War II. The tale, told from the perspective of Henry Lee’s flashbacks to childhood, is sparked as a result of the renovation of the Panama Hotel, a hotel that is metaphorically on the corner of “bitter” and “sweet.” The tale not only discusses the relationship between the two children, but follows them through the intricacies of dealing with an intercultural friendship, especially one considered so dangerous, during the time of cultural persecution and internment following the bombing of Pearl Harbor.…

The first crime scene where multiple bodies were found was when investigators found Marcia Faye Chapman, Cynthia Hinds, and Opal Charmaine Mills in the Green River in 1982. Evidence was being collected at the crime scene by the first responding officers Dave Reichert and Sue Peters; Reichert was obtaining photographs of the riverbank while Peters recorded the procedures. “Reichert half slid down the bank-it was very steep, at least a seventy-degree angle” (Rule 20). As a result of Reichert’s recklessness he possibly contaminated the crime scene and both Reichert and Peter’s failed to continue taking pictures of the area where the third body was found on the river bank resulting in missing evidence of the crime scene. With missing evidence the task force assigned to the case will have trouble determining where the body was moved from because the microscopic evidence that would have been captured with pictures are now gone. According the our text Criminal Investigation in chapter nine it states “Thoroughly photograph everything before…

When I first arrived at the scene I saw Fannin lying on the ground dead. Ernie (the owner of Ernie’s Lunchroom) told me that the murderer had leaned against the wall while firing at point-blank range. As I looked around the lunchroom I saw 3 different sets of footprints. I also noticed that the handprint on the wall was a right hand. As I continued inspecting the scene I saw that the cash register was open and all the money was still in it. Customers B, C, and D had all finished their meals while A hadn’t even touched his. I also observed that A, B, and D had their cups and silverware on the right of their plates while C had his on the left. Right before I left saw all the customers tickets and decided to check the cash…

In the film Hotel Rwanda, the story of Paul Rusesabagina’s life is put on display. It opens with a scene with the characters Paul and Dube, a fictional character based on the Tutsi workers of the Milles Collines. Paul is discussing what “style” is to Dube; they proceed to drive to pick up supplies from Georges Rutaganda. Rutaganda is a businessman and the leader of the Interhamwe militia group responsible for the genocide. At first, Paul appears to be his friend, yet when Rutaganda asks Paul to join the Interhamwe, Paul refuses saying he is too busy. Immediately we see Paul is a good person who doesn’t want any trouble. Later, we find out why Paul doesn’t want to be a part of the Interhamwe; his wife and children are Tutsis. As the movie goes on, the Interhamwe get stronger and stronger as the political unrest is growing. Once the Hutu president’s plane is shot down, the Hutus begin to “cut the tall trees down” as the radio announcer explains. This was a sign to being the mass murdering of all Tutsi people, especially Tutsi children. Paul begins to worry about his own family’s safety and once their neighborhood gets attacked, he brings many people to the Milles Collines, where he works. Due to the Milles Collines being a five star hotel, Paul is worried he is lowering the standard of the hotel. At this point, Paul is trying to hide the fact that he is hiding Tutsi’s in the hotel. He is trying to keep the reputation to avoid suspicion from the Interhamwe rebels. Soon, however, the UN guards who have been assisting the Milles Collines with safety are being told to evacuate. They take with them all of the non-Rwandan peoples and leave the others left with no protection. There are many close calls with the Interhamwe and the refugees, but Paul avoids the conflicts by buying off the generals and bribing them for more time. The UN soldiers finally return with visas for many of the families to…
