My baseball team was going to Cooperstown for a big tournament. Only problem was that it cost $10,000.00 per team to enter the tournament. We would ask different companies to donate to our team. One company offered our team $2,000.00 if our team volunteered to work it’s haunted house.
I offered to work all three nights. On the first night I showed up and older kids showed me what I would be doing. I would be guiding the groups through the house and making sure that no one tried to get out the emergency exits. They had me and my teammates go through the house so that we could familiarize ourselves with the route and scenes. The haunted house then opened! My teammate and I would bring one group through the house. When we were half way through, the next group would start, and so on. I was just as scared as the people I was guiding! The only way I was getting through this, was to keep thinking about Cooperstown.
Then, it happened! We had a break. As people walked in and out to take their breaks, I noticed that some of the “monsters” were coming in and taking their masks and makeup off. It hit me! This was just a show. The other people working the haunted house were just regular kids like me. They would ask “How is it going,” and “ Are you having fun.” I would reply “ It’s going great and I’m having a fun time.”
When my break was over, the next group I brought through was a lot easier to handle because I could recognize some of the people. I was not afraid anymore, which was good considering I had two more days of guiding people through the haunted house.
Because I volunteered at the haunted house, I can now watch some horror movies and do appreciate the haunting effects more at Halloween. I even attempt to scare people now!

I absolutely love scary things. For example, I love haunted houses. Every year my family goes to the Safe House haunted houses at Tech. I usually bring a friend of my choice. Well, last year I brought Kaela Blais. She’s not into scary stuff like I am. When we went in the first haunted section, we walked about halfway down the hallway and she started crying. So I ended up walking out with her and my little brother and cousin came with us cause they were scared too. I had to comfort her on the way down and we sat in some chairs and waited for the rest of my family. I really wanted to go in the haunted house but I didn’t want to leave Kaela. We ended up finding two other of my friends and we went in this house that was for little kids and it was lame, but fun. In one of the hallways there was bubble wrap all over the floor and that entertained us a lot. Me and my friends had a lot of fun…

Horror movies, like scary stories and thrilling amusement park rides, allow us to challenge our fears, to show that we are not afraid, to prove that we can. King proposes that these activities confirm for each of us our normality, while also appealing to the worst in all of us, as they allow the freeing of our fantasies without fear of reprisal or repercussion.…

Each year people from the tri-state area travel to different haunted houses to experience some of the scariest moments of their lives. The scariest haunted house of the state is located in Tuxedo Park, New York, called The Forest of Fear. This event is more extreme than ever this year, containing five attractions for one admission price between $20 and $30. The five attractions are Uncle Jimmie’s Place, Das Kamp, Blind Panic, The Graveyard, and the Slaughterhouse. This haunted house is not recommended to children under the age of 12 due to the gory, disturbing characters walking throughout the forest. On October 27, I had driver’s education until six o’clock. I figured that because I was already at Stevenson, I should just stay for Haunted High. I could use it for a cultural event or extra credit and I knew of a few friends who were attending. I have absolutely no idea why I possibly thought this could end in such a way that I wasn’t completely terrified. I hate horror movies, haunted houses, and generally anything scary. Prior to Haunted High, I had only seen one horror movie, House at the End of the Street, and I only agreed to watch it if my cousin told me exactly what was going to happen and when. Anytime I hear a scary story I will spend the next week or two terrified that whatever it was about would come and kill, hurt, or haunt me.…

In most haunted house stories now, the tormented inhabitants of the house usually discover some secret just before the biggest, most powerful ghostly display at the climax of the narrative. These discoveries are a way to explain the horror of the house. The 1999 film adaptation, The Haunting, embraces this kind of plot structure. If I had, I would’ve known on page 50, when Dr. Montague says, “some houses are born bad… What it was like before then, whether its personality was molded by the people who lived here, or the things they did, or whether it was evil from the start, are all questions I cannot answer.”…

Horror movies test us on our fears, desires and mentality. As from the king’s thesis, “the reason we all crave horror movies is because we are all mentally ill”. That gives a point that we need to watch horror movies just to release our tension. Some people prefer horror movies for a different reason. They want to prove to themselves that they are brave and that they fear nothing. People always try to prove certain things true when they are not that sure of themselves. Even though they choose to watch these things, the images are still disturbing for many people. But people have the ability to pay attention as much or as little as they care to in order to control what effect it has on them, emotionally and…

Horror and thriller are a long standing favorite media type of our kind. A good scare that lingers in our minds sticks with us in ways other genres do not. The interest can span through movies and novels which both deliver results in different ways. Horrors and thrillers also affect our bodies while watching, though also differently. The reasons of why we like to be scared continue to be studied, but a few theories have emerged that are all partially accepted. Horrors and thrillers stimulate both our bodies and minds because they remain a mystery as to why we like them, they have helped us evolve, and they demand our attention.…

Ever since I have been a little kid, I have always loved horror movies. This genre of movies interests me, because you are constantly kept on the edge of your seat. I think when you take a look at various horror films and compare them; you will notice an array of different scare tactics/methods. You will also notice many cliché ideas that a lot horror flicks have in common. I will point these ideas out in detail, when I compare The Dawn of The Dead horror flick released in 1978, with the one released in 2004; Two and a half decades later.…
