One not so great thing we have done is shown humanity’s dark side in The Crucible. In this we are shown the way we will turn on each other in an instant to get attention or to make us feel better about people we dislike. The girls in this book cried witch on nearly everyone to get rid of people who did not think the same as them or who they did not like. We also see the destruction that a mob mentality can cause in Lord of the Flies. The group of boys went savage for a while, even going as far as killing one of their own my smushing him with a giant boulder. They acted like it was cool to run around like animals but regretted it later. They were originally normal boys who had some fun and forgot their own wills and consciences. The old man believes with all of his being that this is his purpose in life and by-god he will catch the fish even if it kills him. His emotional and physical struggles prove without a doubt that he is a genuine human being who lives with the human condition and is not like the fish fighting on pure instinct. We commonly hear that “if you truly love someone, you will put them first without regard to yourself”. We see Cyrano doing exactly that in Cyrano De Bergerac. He loves Roxane and puts her wishes and happiness before his own by helping Christian growwwwwl her.
