The economic, political, and social consequences of the war drastically impacted the daily lives of Germans and the ramifications weighed so heavily on the nation that there was an intrinsic reaction to blame. People turned to a

As a direct result of modern weaponry such as machine guns, chemical weapons, and grueling trench warfare, the end of World War I had more than 9 million casualties and 21 million injuries. An entire generation of boys were on the verge of being wiped out. To add to the intense distraught after the war, many of the surviving soldiers were under the opinion that the war had not been lost in a fair manner (Hitler coined this belief as 'The Stab in the back'). The widespread belief among these soldiers was that they had been cheated. Cheated out of a victory and cheated into signing the treaty of Versailles.
