Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet contains many different plots and themes. For example, through including the two completely different households who do not like each other, Shakespeare is able to convey the message that feuding is unreasonable and that parents or guardians should not try to control their children’s hopes and desires. Throughout the tragedy, many less obvious messages are conveyed as well. One less obvious message that is revealed in the tragedy is the theme stating that everyone should be an individual, and people should be free to be themselves. Evidence of this imperceptible message would be found throughout the story’s plot and characters (especially one character in particular). Throughout the tragedy, Shakespeare is able to reveal the message that people should be free to be individuals throughout the story’s plot. In other words, the imperceptible message is conveyed throughout the story’s sequence of events. One event in particular in which this message is disclosed is when in Act 1 (scene three) of the play, Juliet’s mother attempts to convince Juliet to marry Paris (the prince).
