THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING YOUR BARRACKS ROOM CLEAN
THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING YOUR BARRACKS ROOM CLEAN
By: SPC Crawford, Michael S

The Army has many standards that Soldiers must meet on a daily basis. Maintaining your barracks room to Army standards is a responsibility every Soldier must adhere to. It is extremely important to maintain the healthiness and cleanliness of one’s room.

Maintaining your barracks room is a very easy task to do. It does not take much to put your dirty clothes in a hamper or to make your bed or even dust. All of those tasks are very simple to do. By not maintaining my room I put myself, friends, and anyone else at a greater risk of getting sick. Unsanitary conditions in the barracks room are disgusting. Through frequent contact throughout the day with the other soldiers that one soldier could be in contact with, he or she could become sick, and could possibly cause other soldiers to be ill. When one soldier becomes the source of other soldiers being sick then that soldier could face possible punishment under Article 134 of the Universal Code of Military Justice. Even though it is only a general Article, it still looks bad on the soldier, especially if the soldier is up for promotion and is getting ready to go out to the promotion board. Article 134 states as follows: 934. ART. 134. GENERAL ARTICLE. Though not specifically mentioned in this chapter, all disorders and neglects to the prejudice of good order and discipline in the armed forces, all conduct of a nature to bring discredit upon the armed forces, and crimes and offenses not capital, of which persons subject to this chapter may be guilty, shall be taken cognizance of by a general, special or summary court-martial, according to the nature and degree of the offense, and shall be punished at the discretion of that court.

And whenever soldiers are being unsanitary in their living quarters and causing other soldiers to become sick then they are bringing discredit upon their Team Chief, their Squad Leader, their Platoon Sergeant,

Soldiers will do almost anything that their commander tells them. In a good way this is useful but when what they are doing is morally wrong there should be boundaries. But there are none and if they don't do what they are told then they have to face the punishment. But this is still different because they are trained to do whatever it takes to protect their nation no matter. However when a commander becomes corrupt they take advantage of the troops and use them for their own wrong doing. So there is a limit of when people should follow authority. Most people can tell when someone is corrupt but there are still those who think just because he is your commander it must be right so I have to do…

Soldiers don’t necessarily have anything wrong with their behavior, however it causes them to be outcasted as rude or impolite. In “Soldier’s Home,” Krebs, the protagonist, talks about how he wants a girl but he doesn’t “want to work for her.”(85) He feels that courting a girl would include having to lie to her about his interests and experiences in order to impress her. This mirrors the way soldiers feel like they have to lie to people in order to gain their interest. Which makes them feel secluded from the rest of the world because they don’t want to lie, and because of this, they have trouble adjusting after coming home.…

Respect is a way for human beings to harmonize as a group and on a deeper level as individuals. This is why it is so important in large groups like the Army, so that we can successfully get along and complete the missions assigned to us. When someone disrespects another it causes a rippling effect which can destroy an entire unit and their relationships necessary to act as a cohesive unit. It affects everyone, no matter their rank or position. Whether it happens personally to you or to the unit it will affect morale usually in a negative way. The only way to stop it is to ensure all soldiers remain respectful & professional at all times. All soldiers are leaders and it is our job to ensure we maintain a positive and respectful…

Soldiers must be and act responsibly in every situation they may find themselves in, whether it’s in or out of uniform. Responsibility increases when soldiers believe that they have personal control over their mission performance, performing out of desire to do well instead of just following orders. There have been many studies that have suggested that when a Soldier feels that they have personal control over work performance the result is that the Soldier has a better task performance, better problem solving, and a higher persistence in accomplishing the task, more positive emotions and even better psychological and physical health. Responsibility and accountability are two of the main factors in being a successful Soldier in today’s U.S. Army. You must be a responsible soldier if you want to make it through deployment alive. Or even worse, if you fail to be responsible you could…

Integrity is one of the most talked about and most abused of the Seven Army Values. First we must define integrity it is doing the right thing consistently. That means that we must do the legally and morally correct thing every time. Just because something is hard or unpleasant does not mean that we can look the other way. Doing the right thing is not a matter of deciding do I help my fellow soldier and let him slide on an Army regulation or do I uphold the regulation. It means doing both they are both equally important. Sometimes helping a soldier means that you must enforce the regulations and in some cases that can mean discharging them from the Army at other times it means fighting for the soldier and getting them the help that they need to succeed in the Army.…

This not only means keeping the sleeping quarters orderly for everyone, but there is also the grueling task of keeping the restrooms spotless. The crew is responsible for their own living conditions and are not given special amenities to aid in their responsibilities, such as a housekeeper or a cleaner. It is not only the firehouse itself that must be maintained, but the actual fire trucks and engines must be washed by the crew as well. These immense vehicles take quite a bit effort to clean and therefore require specific attention in order to ensure that they are properly cared for. While the trucks and engines may not be cleaned every day, it is still a duty that the crew are responsible to carry out nonetheless.…
