The Importance Of Legalizing Marijuana In The United States
Why Should We Legalize Marijuana in the U.S.? Marijuana was illegalized because we used the seed inside of the plant to make paper and our country was racing to make paper. Who would have known that paper was a reason marijuana was illegalized? There wasn’t enough because too many people were using the marijuana for other purposes so it became illegal so they could use the seeds inside of the plant to make paper. According to the Chief scientists Jason L. Merrill and Lyster H. Dewey had made paper out of the cannabis according to the United States Department of Agriculture in 1916. The constitution of Independence is made in this paper. This was only one reason it was illegalized though. Marijuana should be legalized because there is always …show more content…
There are 23 states and the district of columbia have some laws legalizing marijuana in some type of way. Alaska has joined two other states in the legalization of marijuana and 23 states allow marijuana to be used if they were to be given by prescription and use. A few states that legalize marijuana are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, and many more states. How come 23 states can legalize marijuana but the whole united states can’t just have a law to were your state can add regulations to the law, such as it would only be legal for medical purposes? I feel as if it would be better and easier rather than tons of people moving to one state because of marijuana being legalized. Marijuana should be legalized in the …show more content…
One reason I believe it should be legalized is because it is used as medical treatments and preventions like cancer, epilepsy and many other illnesses. Another good reason is that it is proven to be safer than many other drugs such as tobacco and alcohol. The last reason why I believe it should be legalized is because many states already have it legalized and I am sure that many more states will follow in probably at least 4-5 years. Marijuana does so much for the world but how can it do what it can if it isn’t

There is no solid reason for marijuana to be illegal. The risks and dangers of taking it are about the same as the risks of drinking alcohol of smoking tobacco, both which are legal for adults. Furthermore, making it illegal is ineffective at stopping minors from taking the drug, and makes the drug more dangerous because it cannot be regulated. Legal marijuana would be less dangerous because it would have to conform to safety standards, and have warnings to keep people informed, like cigarettes do. If society can change their views on alcohol, they can change their views on marijuana.…

Thesis Statement: I think if the United States were to legalize marijuana in the 21st century, would it lead to a decrease in crime and create a stimulus for the economy. I am going to show that the taxpayers are forced to pay billions of dollars to prosecute, and incarcerate people for having marijuana. If marijuana were legal and regulated (like alcohol and tobacco) this money, plus tax revenues from marijuana sales could be used for other purposes such as education and health care.…

Marijuana was first used for medicinal purposes dating back as early as the 1600’s. However, a law was passed in 1930, which banned the substance. Since then we have been fighting a never-ending war on drugs that has estimated to be over a trillion dollar failure, and we have nothing to show for it. There are many different takes on legalizing marijuana nation-wide but some states are not convinced yet. There are two main views on legalizing cannabis. One is the government view, which believes if marijuana was taxed like alcohol and tobacco it could yield close to 50 billion in tax revenue annually. Along with this, legalizing the drug would save the U.S. about $41 billion a year in enforcing the drug laws, and using that for education and health. The other view would be the medicinal use side of it. Proponents of medical marijuana argue that it can be a safe and effective treatment for the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, pain, glaucoma, epilepsy, and other conditions. The government should legalize marijuana for recreational and medical use because it will create tax revenue, help patients, and we will be done fighting an everlasting war.…
