The decision in which Texas should become annexed was an ongoing battle in which many people have many different beliefs. Henry Clay a famous speaker of the house believed that we should not annex Texas. One of the reasons was that he believed it would start a war with Mexico. He also believed that it would not help the Union at all. Another man John L. O'Sullivan believed that we should annex Texas. One of his main reasons is that it would add more land, power, and another state to the Union.…

At the end of the Civil War, in which Southerners had fought valiantly against the brutal invasion forces of the North in an effort to protect local institutions and states rights, the South lay broken and destitute. Rather than trying to reunite the country as peacefully and quickly as possible, the victorious North set out on a deliberate policy of rape, pillage, plunder, and vindictive punishment.…

To begin, Florida known as “the sunshine state” hooks you in as soon as you enter the state. The beautiful palm trees blowing in the wind, the numerous orange groves you see from the roadside and the welcome center offering fresh squeezed orange juice makes you feel so at home. There are so many beautiful exotic looking flowers in the landscaping of homes and businesses. Of course, the warmer climate is the main attraction in Florida. The annual average high is 79F degrees and the average low is 57F degrees. Snow rarely falls in most of Florida, but has on occasion in the northern peninsula. Florida also has an abundant annual rainfall especially during the months of June through September. In addition, Florida is located between the Atlantic Ocean and The Gulf of Mexico, therefore it also has exceptionally high humidity and of course there is always a chance of hurricanes as well. Undoubtedly, both of these items are a major downfall to me.…

Government, Politics, and Public Policy: A policymaking system is a set of institutions and activities that link together government, politics, and public policy. In a democratic society, parties, elections, interest groups, and the media are key linkage institutions between the preferences of citizens and the government’s policy agenda. When people confront government officials with problems they expect them to solve, they are trying to influence the government’s policy agenda. A government’s policy agenda changes frequently: if public officials want to get elected, they must pay attention to the problems that concern…

When I first moved to Texas and was adjusting to my surroundings the people that I encountered were welcoming. My neighbor would lend us a helping hand and offered home baked goods although typically clichéd it was true. There were very polite and approachable people in Texas. Another good quality is that they are extreme sports fanatics since they only have one sports team, the San Antonio Spurs basketball team. The Spurs mean everything to the people of San Antonio.…

Texas is a large state with a vast population that has a variety of diversity and perspectives about the government. The perspectives of the people are important since they define the political culture of the state and affect how others in different nations perceive us. Texas is often described as having a combination of traditionalistic individualistic political culture. Some patterns that reflect Texas’s political culture are taxes kept low and social services minimized. Also, business leaders are the people that have a major say in how the government is managed. In Texas the state has a diversity of views in how the government should be managed which makes it more difficult to classify the political culture. (Champagne and Harpham, pg. 6)The…
