Some people might say, that persistence is always a good thing, yet that's not true. While most of the time, perseverance is needed there are certain moments when you should persist in something if it is dangerous and harmful to you or other people. You can’t be too determined about doing harmful things, like drugs, alcohol, or even self-harm.
In the story “Swimming To Antarctica”
Lynne Cox only succeeded because of her persistence. Only Lynne’s determination may have caused harm to her body. When she got out of the water, she was freezing and she had many other problems, which she could have avoided if she had not been so determined to swim a mile in cold water.
As said in the Radio Transcript, “The Upside of Quitting” there is some situation where you just have to quit. When if you’re old and you have a higher risk of getting an injury, it’s not a bad thing if somebody quits playing a sport. Certain things you can not just give up, like attainable goals, if you have a goal that you can reach you shouldn’t quit. However if your goal is unreachable, no one will blame you if you do not keep trying to reach it.
