Fame, fortune, whatever you can dream up and equal possibilities for all. That’s what we grow up believing the American dream to be, but the reality of it all isn’t so sweet. We’re taught in school to be “future ready” meaning we have the capability to work a full-time job out of high school if we so choose. Throughout high school we’re told we can go into any profession we want if we set our mind to it and go through the correct studies. Living in America means that success relies on opportunity, post-secondary education and chosen profession. Most people don’t realize the opportunities we’re given as a human right and living in America provides us with such opportunities. We have human rights that guarantee us opportunities that give us tools to be successful in our future. A major tool that we’re all given at a young age is
We believe that when we go into post-secondary school such as college or trade school that we’re going to receive the type of knowledge and skills to be successful in our interest. This is true for the majority of people because college is our gateway to a successful and wealthy life, and if we pay the tens of thousands of dollars of tuition to attend the college, we’re for sure hoping it will all pay off in the end. In the end, it does pay off for everyone and for some it can pay off and then some. Like in the case of the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos who graduated out of Princeton University and Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer who earned both graduate and undergraduate degrees from Stanford University. They’re both in high up positions in two of the most profitable companies in the world, and they attended some of the same colleges as everyone else. Any one of us could be successful like them because as citizens of America, we can invest our time into what we enjoy and make a career out of
