Overview Alec Ross wrote a book The industries of the future. Book was published in 2016 by Simon and Schuster on 320 pages. Book consists of introduction, six chapters, and conclusion. Acknowledgments are given at the end of the book. Every part of the book starts with a quote that fits into main subject. Introduction has four subheadings: The wrong side of globalization, Growing up in the old economy, The right side of globalization, and The industries of the future. This ensures the survival of the industry and its competitive development in modern conditions where information is most important. For example, in most factories today robots do a larger number of operations, and there is a possibility that in the future completely replace employees. This could cause various economic problems such as the dismissal of workers. Therefore, the government and companies must pay special attention to this problem. Furthermore, the book talks about the process of globalization and its impact on different aspects of the business and the positive and negative implications of this process. The process of globalization has influenced the creation of unique market, but on the other hand, influenced the decrease in jobs. The former way of doing business is no longer viable in modern conditions. New technologies have led to the development of new ways of communication, new payment methods, etc. Previously it was only possible to pay with cash, later it became possible to use of credit and debit cards. This has contributed to the development of technology. Today, thanks to the development of technology it is possible to pay in real time. It can be documented by the development of different services such as PayPal or a trading platform such as Amazon or eBay. Particular revolution in digital payments is the emergence of Bitcoin. New information and new information and communication technologies create new markets (real or virtual). The book tells about the geography of future markets. The main question is whether under the influence of globalization and information technology will be reached the unification of existing markets, or will come to their division. Creating a currency that can be transmitted in different markets without exchange (e.g. Bitcoin) or new service (e.g. Paypal) shows us that there is one single market, at least virtually. The creation of such a market

Technology is a wonderful thing. With so many technological advances happening in the world every day, it’s hard to imagine life before it all came along. For many older generations though, they can remember a time when humans were doing most of what artificial intelligence is doing now. In today’s world, just trying to actually talk to a human over the phone when calling places of businesses can be an eye opening experience into a world consumed with Technology. Artificial intelligence is becoming more advanced and able to perform multiple capabilities, so one cannot deny that at some point in the future human jobs may have a smaller role in the manufacturing industry.…

Several new global trends are particularly shaping business today. No one economy is isolated; US markets are dependent on European and Asian markets and vice versa. Greek debt has an impact on US banks, which in turn not only impact the Greek but also the global economy. The labor force is dealing with multi-cultural issues like serving customers online via phone or Internet from another country. Amidst these trends one of great interest to me is the increasing prominence of developing markets.…

In recent discussions, there were different views on whether the machines should eventually take over, and replace human jobs. On one hand, some argue that a machine can work faster, achieve more in less amounts of time, and can even repair its self when broken. One writer, Marguerite McNeal, convinces her perspective by giving hope and a vision of how we have already slowly transformed into technology over the years. On the other hand, others argue that this could be a risk to many jobs, for there are not enough jobs in the world as it is. In the words of Ford, “People say that having a guaranteed income will turn everyone into a slacker and destroy the economy. I think the opposite might be true, that it might push us toward more entrepreneurship…

The search for solutions for wicked problems never ends whereas ordinary problems can be solved in a certain way (Camillus 2008). It is clear from the evidence that industrial automation will have a negative effect of the American job market. These benefits of adopting robotics into the workplace, such as the increase of productivity, profits, quality and safety, are just too great for business owners to ignore, which leaves workers at a disadvantage. Unfortunately, the encroachment of machines into the workspace shows no signs of slowing down with around half of American jobs expected to be done by machines by…

In Kelly’s article he explains, “70 percent of today’s occupations will likewise be replaced by automation.” We are in a generation that is always after more, so he is saying that like years ago we evolved with machines, we will soon evolve even more with robots. On the other hand, there is an argument that even though robots are going to be better by helping us, they are still taking jobs away. It is a logical statement, but by the end of some jobs, new ones will be created.…

Factories now no longer need as many workers to run them. Many people’s jobs have been outsourced to machines and computers. Those factories and mills that stayed opened were able to spend their money on new technology. Mills that continued to operate were able to replace their workers with a new generation of nearly autonomous, computer- run machines (Davidson 320). Factory workers became obsolete to machines. One by one almost every worker was replaced by a fancy new computer system.…

Another major factor of our “hourglass” economy is the increased automation/mechanization of the workforce. Technology nowadays seems to advance at an ever-increasing rate. As more and more “labor-saving” machines and robots are “employed” to do the jobs of hard-working people, more and more jobs seem to shrivel up and become a casualty of our ever more modern society. In the late 1980s, Nippon Steel joined with America’s ailing Inland Steel to build a new $400 million cold-rolling mill fifty miles west of Gary, Indiana. The mill was celebrated for its state-of-the-art…

Today’s corporate world faces challenges of globalization and the Internet. Globalization is “the integrated internationalization of markets and corporations” (Wheelen & Hunger, 2010, p. 8). Wheelen and Hunger (2010) describe Thomas Friedman’s belief that because of globalization, “jobs, knowledge, and capital are now able to move across borders with far greater speed and far less friction than was possible only a few years ago” (p. 8). Some examples of globalization’s impact on the corporate world include increased competition and employment, new investment opportunities, the flow of foreign capital, expanding foreign trade, and the spread of technical know-how and education (Kulkarni, n.d.). As for the impact of the Internet, because of its universal accessibility, consumers have become more educated about the purchases they make and the services they need or utilize. Companies have to become even more consumer-oriented in the products and services they offer. Moreover, the Internet serves as a useful tool for the growth and viability of companies. For example, Wheelen and Hunger (2010) note that “the worldwide availability of the Internet means that companies can now locate anywhere and work with multiple partners to serve any market” (p. 8). Some businesses, such as Amazon and Overstock.com, have even decided to operate completely online to reach customers across all borders.…
