Governments are often creating programs to rehabilitate alcoholics and making conscious of the seriousness of drinking and driving. Also, news reports, broadcasts, and social media are a constant reminder of why drinking and driving is a demerit activity.
The 24/7 sobriety program was created to regulate driving over the influence of alcohol. Under this program, drunk drivers have the benefit to drive but they have a court order which explicitly states they cannot drink.
On a daily-basis, drunk drivers are doing a Breathalyzer test to maintain their sobriety. From 2005 to 2015, the 24/7 sobriety program has received 37,291 participants and has a pass rate of 99.1% ( 24/7 Sobriety Program, 2015). If they do not stick to the program, drunk drivers receive a penalty including jail. Many of the benefits of the 24/7 sobriety program is that recover drunk drivers do not go back to drinking because they realize the negative effect it has on them. Also, they are avoiding car crash, problems with the police, and demerit goods. Recover drunk drivers are making a good to society because they are making more safely roads. Furthermore, they are becoming a changing actor to the better-good of the world. The complete removal of alcohol in an alcoholic life reduces incidence in the roads. The police facility of South Dakota reports a 12% drop in driving under the influence of alcohol and a 9% drop in domestic-violence arrests (Humphreys, 2015). We have seen that people with alcoholic problems are failing to make good choices due to the environment that surrounds them. This program was created with a safe environment to recover and support drunk drivers.
