The target for my website is to persuade my viewers to raise awareness and caution for alcohol’s lethal effects. Throughout this website I will specifically aim at the factors of drinking and driving and the dangerous effects alcohol has to the health of your body. Although alcohol has been used for decades as a form of leisure and pleasure, this substance must be limited and served with precaution. Individuals are hurting themselves, their families and friends, and even other’s families and friends as a result of alcohol’s aftermath. Personally, I have experienced the outcome of drinking and driving as my father was once swerving in and out of lanes, was pulled over and served for Driving Under the Influence. Although my …show more content…
father was punished for this crime, I noticed he did not learn from this mistake and continues to do so. In addition, alcohol has caused serious health effects to his organs as he has consistently been drinking since his teenage years. I intend for this website to outline the importance of this issue and hope to gain support in creating stricter rules and policies to prevent the consequences of alcohol.
Intended Audience The audience for this website is broad and extensive as this issue impacts individuals of all ages. Alcohol has a great influence on children and teenager’s lives as they may have family members that use this substance. This website will assist in educating young children and teenagers of the effects of alcohol and inform them of ways to prevent occurrences of misconduct as a result of alcohol. Although this website is beneficial to a broad age range, I intend on aiming my focus on individuals of all races/religions/genders ranging from 15-80 years old as they will have the most experience with this issue. This age range is specifically targeted because they can raise awareness and support for this cause as alcohol’s effects have personally impacted a majority of the audience in one way or another. Furthermore, to establish a strong sense of ethos in my website I will cite sources from authority figures throughout my website. These credible sources accompanied with the avoidance of common fallacies will greatly enhance my credibility (ethos) with my audience. In addition, these sources will also contribute to my websites logos as these sources consist of factual evidence and statistics. An example of this use is noted in which I intend on using the statistic, “Despite reductions in alcohol–related traffic fatalities since the early 1980s, alcohol remained a factor in 41 percent of the traffic deaths recorded in the United States in 2002” (Hingson and Winter). This statement improves both my websites logos and ethos as it provides statistical evidence (logos) from professionals in Social and Behavioral Science and Data Analysis (ethos). In addition, I would like to share my story and experience with this matter to create a commonplace with my intended audience. I believe this will influence my websites logos as I am connecting with my viewers on a similar problem. Another component that greatly strengthens my websites rhetoric is pathos. I intend on incorporating this rhetorical appeal with a plethora of images and videos that show consequences of the effects of alcohol. The images displayed on my website will trigger the viewer’s emotions to feelings of shock, horror, remorse, sadness, and grief. Furthermore, I plan on showing before and after photographs of affected victims to create the emotional feeling of sympathy within viewers in support of this issue. Moreover, I will clearly cite the location and publisher of these images and videos to further elevate my credibility and avoid copyright violations.

Research to Date Thus far, I have extensively researched my topic and gathered sources online using Google search and article databases such as Google Scholar, ProQuest, and Academic Search Premier. These credible sources assist my argument in raising awareness and persuading my audience of the dangerous effects of alcohol. In support of my view, I chose two websites, MADD.org, which focuses on drunk driving and backs my claims in how much of an impact drinking has on driving. The other website I chose is, drugfreeworld.org, which support my aim as it clarifies the harmful effects of alcohol to ones health and lifestyle. In addition, I did research through many scholarly journals and newspaper articles in which contained factual statistics and evidence to support my claim. Finally, the most important article I found to promote my view was calculated by colleagues from the Harvard Department of Health and Social Behavior, which foretold the impact of stricter policies on college campuses in correlation with drinking and driving. I believe this article will assist in my view that stricter policies should be enforced nationwide as they project a decline in the problems associated with alcohol.
Social Media To further complement my website and assist in support of my topic I created a Twitter account. The twitter account will be updated daily and its username is @AlcoholsEffects and account webpage link is https://twitter.com/AlcoholsEffects. Through this account I intend on highlighting important factors and statistics associated with the effects of alcohol to contribute to my viewers logos. Also, I will post images of drunk driver victims and dangerous events as a result alcohol consumption to contribute to my viewers emotions (pathos). I used this form of medium, as it is easier to spread the message through a simple retweet and/or hashtag for the world’s public to view. Lastly, hyperlink to the social media account will be distinctly displayed on the bottom of every page of the website for easy access for the audience.
Site Organization In order to persuade my audience to support my topic, my website must be rhetorically effective and logically appealing.
The website must be easily navigable and simple with important tabs clearly depicting the content of the page. The layout of my webpage will be dark and mysterious to coincide with the content discussed, which is a dangerous and somewhat frightening matter. I will begin my home page with tragic images to immediately target the viewer’s pathos accompanied by information to introduce my argument and inform my audience of my thesis. I will create a “Background” tab in support of my ethos and logos, which will be linked to a page consisting of background information, past debates and testimonies, and past studies and research on this topic. Next, I will have an “Images and Videos” tab, which will contribute, to my websites pathos. This tab will consist of a plethora of images and videos regarding this issue and the real-life effects of this problem. Then, I intend on adding a “Prevention” tab highlighting the various things one can do to avoid alcohol’s lethal effects and prevent others from making these mistakes. Furthermore, I will have a “FAQ’s” tab, which is designed to answer any lingering/unanswered questions viewer’s may have after visiting the website. If for some reason there are further questions or wanted information there will be a final tab labeled “Contact” with text regarding who to contact, where and when they can be reached, and their personal title/bio. In addition, I intend on adding a hotline number for assistance with this issue and all images, videos, and sources will be clearly cited to increase my websites
credibility.
