From the creation of the The Public Bodies (Joint Working) (Scotland) Act 2014 , Glasgow City Council and NHS Greater Glasgow Clyde (NHSGGC) will work together in partnership and have agreed that community health and social services will be integrated. The Integrated Joint Board (IJB) is committed to ensuring the people of Glasgow receive the care they need and to reduced inequality by providing effective and accessible services in our local community . The IJB will also ensure that the services provided are seamless to the service users and carer’s.
Aims of Integration: • Self enablement . Who knows you better than yourself? No one. These services want everyone to take responsibility when it comes to your health . • The most vulnerable in our society are able to live within our community whether it be independently or in a caring setting. • When the public are using both service they will be treated with respect and dignity with a positive experience. • Person Centered …show more content…
services. This is the focus on those using services to have them at the center , putting their needs first in order to maintain a quality service. • Both services are determined to reducing health inequalities and those caring on an unpaid basis are supported. • Everyone is protected from harm this is provided through safe guarding. • Resources are used effectively and efficiently .
Benefits of integration The joining of both health and social care services means that less delays , less people getting lost in the system , information can shared between services which means more effective services and also less duplication if one system can be used to store information.
These changes are needed to keep up with the demand for these services in our ever-aging population. As more and more people live for longer there is an increase in people living with long-term illnesses which puts pressure on the health and social care services which means the current model of care is not working. Therefore these services are working together to reduce unplanned hospital admissions and delays leaving hospital's and promote independent living and enablement which means quality, safe housing must be
provided.
Both the NHSGGC and Glasgow city council had to put in place either a Body Corporate model or a Lead agency model. A body Corporate model was decided which means both integrated services delegate function to the IJB . This model will ensure quality, sustainable services. Through integration both parties will comply with the data protection act by requesting data access from each other.
