The Spanish flu, so named because the Spanish media were the first to forecast such event, spread rapidly across the globe infecting 1/5 of the world’s population and attributing to around 50 million of deaths worldwide. It caused more deaths in one year compared to the deaths that the Bubonic plague had caused in 4 years. Because of this, it is regarded one of as the deadliest disaster in human history. The pandemic had two waves - the second being more deadly than the first.
