Everyone can agree that we, as a nation, must try to reduce gun violence. But how so?
The role guns play in our society has long been a controversial topic for the past few years in the united states. There are those who believe that guns do not belong in the hands of citizens and there are those who believe that guns are the foundation that protects our rights and liberties stated in the Constitution. There are too many leading factors as to why there should not be any stricter gun control laws. Some of these factors are that they go against our fundamental rights of self defense, give too much power to the government, and could potentially increase crime rates in the united states.…
Gun control advocates focus on the serious negative effects on gun availability on safety, while gun ownership advocates emphasize the lawful use of guns and their place in our history and culture. While our history and culture is important we need to address the current national problem in order to live in a safe enough society. In an effort to stabilize and decrease firearm related injuries and deaths in the U.S. a strong federal law to control guns is needed. In the bigger picture, we people will see the United States, as a Nation, as a better safer place to live in and not to die…
Before addressing the viewpoints and the positive and negative effects, understanding what gun control is should be the first step. According to Dictionary.com, Gun Control is, "An effort to fight violent crime by strengthening laws on the ownership of firearms.” Guns are more likely to result in a death, than a knife or other weapons and people own them for the protection of items, hunting, or other reasons (Zimring). While it may be an effort to stop murders and injuries, it will not stop people from…
For the last couple of years, gun control has continued to be a huge controversial debate in Congress. This argument over whether gun control laws should be strict is nothing new to the world of politics. The ideas of gun control consist of laws that either keep away firearms from people, or allow one to keep guns for personal protection. They also control who the guns are being sold to and who can own them. In America, each state government has passed many gun control laws. Many people think that gun control is right because they think keeping people away from guns will reduce the amount of deaths each year. They also think that guns cause many of the deaths that had been committed each year. Whenever people hear the word gun, the thoughts…
The debate over the restrictions of gun control is centered on the Second Amendment to the Constitution, which gives people the right to bear arms. Gun control supporters believe that this explicit right does not extend to ownership of military-style firearms. For example, groups like the National Rifle Association argue that gun control infringes on the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. Gun control is an on-going debate because each year more people are killed by the use of guns. However, guns are not the result in the number of homicides each year, the problems rests with the irresponsible gun users. Gun Control would do nothing but harm America because guns offer protection and security…
There is a big controversy about whether or not to have control over guns. One side of the controversy is that no citizen is allowed to have a gun in the house hold, only allowing the Army, Cops, and anyone with that power over the country. You also have the other side that the citizens are on, where many of the citizens use firearms for hunting, safety, and many other things. How could we take away firearms when so many people have and use them, “In the United States every 100 people 88.8% have firearms.” (ProCon.org “Gun Control ProCon.org”,1) The main reason the government is thinking to have gun control, is to decrease the lives that are getting taken away by these powerful tools that we use to have fun. Many people…
Ever since the 1990s, gun violence in America has been a problem that has worried many American citizens. There have been too many incidents in which guns have caused death to innocent people. The technology of guns has progressed rapidly in recent years, making the weapons more efficient but yet more lethal. If a gun gets in the hands of someone wanting to do harm, it would be hard to stop him/her from injuring those around. In the past twenty years there have been many deadly shootings across the United States, such as Virginia Tech (32 dead), Sandy Hook elementary (26 dead), and Columbine (13 dead) (Deadliest US Shootings). These are only few out of many mass shootings that have occurred in the past two decades in our country. However, the problem in the US goes beyond the mass shootings. Every year, there are more than 100,000 people are shot; there are 86 deaths per day from guns: 30 are murdered, 53 kill themselves, two die accidentally, and on from police intervention (Just the facts: Gun Violence in America). The stats show it: there is a dire need for gun control in the US.…
Gun control has sparked quite a controversy over the years. Some people believe that having strict gun control is the only way to fix the problems. While others, including myself, believe it is more a problem with the person that is behind the trigger. There has been laws about gun control as early as 1934. as citizens, we need to ask ourselves if having gun control will solve all the issues at hand. With both arguments, there is facts to support. I believe that gun control will not have the ability to make all the problems go away, there needs to be more done.…
The topic of gun control is hotly debated today. 50 % of the population are for it, believing that having a gun provides them with protection. Because of various reasons the government aren’t able to protect us, which is why people look for other ways to stay safe. However a gun is still a weapon. Despite the fact that people want to have to be on the safe side there were many accidents were an innocent people end up hurt unintentionally. Since Obama took office in 2008 there’s been about 23 mass shootings (Grider, 2015), 62 shootings at schools, 12,223 people killed in gun incidents and 24, 722 people injured(Gunter, 2015). There’s been shootings in Washington D.C, North Carolina, California, etc.…
The most important role of the United States government is to protect the rights and freedoms of individual citizens. Some might argue that the world 's greater issue is government(1). All countries have social issues that are mostly blamed on the government. Governments should first focus on the social issues that the citizens are mostly concerned off. The United States has many social issues some of those issues are education, tax the wealthy, creation of new jobs, same sex marriage, gun control and many others.…

Imagine an intruder entering your residence, picking the lock and invading your families’ personal and private place, your home. Now, remember that your father has a rifle locked away in a case in the back of the bedroom closet. You barely hear him as he removes the firearm from its resting place and loads a cartridge until to action, perhaps it’s your imagination. Yet, you can hear the intruder passing through the house as the eerie silence of time speeding by launches your senses into a fit of terror. Across the hall you hear your father slip out of the bedroom and pass your door. Flicking on the light he shouts at the intruder, “Get out of my house!” The intruder fires a handgun he had concealed and your father fires back. There he is, the man that invaded your home and endangered your family, wounded on the kitchen floor. The police arrive, having been called by your mother, and handcuff your father. He spends the next six years in prison for owning a firearm in an area where it’s prohibited without a license (Adams, M). Is this just? Is this the society we have created? The fundamental right to protect yourself, your family and your property denied because of an unconstitutional regulation forbidding the possession of firearms in one’s own home. The Second Amendment provides for the protection of the people of the United States and their rights, be they basic human rights or rights as citizens of a profoundly thinking country. It is through the Second Amendment that the founding fathers acknowledged the pre-existing right to protect ourselves, in so doing, guaranteeing American citizens the right to “bear arms”.…
As Barack Obama once said “My biggest frustration so far is the fact that this society has not been willing to take some basic steps to keep guns out of the hands of people who can do just unbelievable damage...This is becoming the normal. We should be ashamed ”(Obama). All around America many people are killed by gun violence. The issue of gun control has taken place in America for many years now.Now gun control has got out of hand.Due to the amount of gun violnece in the United States, the government has evrey right to dictate to citizens that they should not be allowed to own guns.…
Gun control has been a very debated topic in America for as long as the county has been a country. Some believe that there is no reason to have personally owned guns because of the danger and violence associated with them. Others believe that guns are the backbone of American society and without them chaos would ensue and the country would no longer function. There are also many in the middle that believe that there should be regulations on the types of firearms and the number of them and individual may be allowed to own.…
Gun control laws create many problems. For example people want to increase gun control procedures to decrease the amount of shootings there are. They push this even though according to the The Trace mass shootings account for only 2% of annual gun deaths. Another reason people try to push gun control is to make it harder for criminals to get guns. According to Criminals don’t follow laws, a user on Debate.org “The whole point of so called gun control is to keep those who should not have guns from obtaining them.” This is true the people they are trying to keep from getting guns are criminals. Now, when did criminals start following laws? Criminals don’t follow the laws. At that point they are making it harder for someone who is legitimately trying to get a gun have more trouble.…
