The Jesus I Never Knew Summary

Philip Yancey has written what could well be described as one of the most perspective changing books ever written about Jesus Christ. The Jesus I Never Knew is a thrilling, difficult, and fulfilling book that compels the reader to examine their preconceptions of Jesus Christ, and see how it aligns with The Holy Bible. In this book, Yancey brings the reader alongside himself in a journey of rediscovering who the Jesus of the Bible really is. I found Yancey’s book causing me to see Jesus through 3 different perspectives that cumulate to form a proper whole view of Jesus. These 3 perspectives include Jesus as the authoritative King, a historical world changer, and most of all a relational friend to all sinners. Throughout The Jesus I never Knew, Yancey writes about Jesus Christ in a way that shows the authority He carried as God. In his look at the life of God Yancey writes about the authority Jesus demonstrated in His miracles and teachings. Within in His miracles, Jesus demonstrated to us His power over everything that we could ever come against us. In healing the sick Jesus showed the authority of His name over every sickness and disease. In helping the lame walk, or the blind to see Jesus showed that His
The Jesus I Never Knew provided a theological journey for me that required me to reflect on my current theological views. It helped me take a theological inventory of sorts to see which version of Jesus I worshiped Him as. I remember the picture of Jesus hanging on the wall in the Sunday school room of the church I grew up in as a young child. I remember thinking that this Jesus looked rather mythical with rays of light shining around Him and a rainbow in the background. I remember the moment that as a sinner I realized that Jesus was not out to get me but rather wanted to be with me. I even remember the moment I saw Jesus as someone to have a relationship with, so it was easy for me to go on this journey with Philip
