An author is allowed to extract excerpts from total information received in a review. I get permission to do this first, but it is not necessary as long as you do not change the reviewer’s opinion.
The rule is: Once the reviewer sends an author their book review comments, they become property of the author, to do with, as they will. They may correct misspellings, change punctuation, or incorrect word usage, but should never change or distort the opinion.
