Through religious knowledge systems (religion), the knower is quickly confronted with a way of knowing founded on a network of beliefs and organised practices which consciously aim to affect the ways people behave in society. Religion is not just about ‘faith,’ (the trust one has in religious doctrine), but in education, social interactions, and understandings of the external world: since its birth religion has created rules on diet, relationships, and schooling, as well as punishments if such rules are broken. This is because religion is a bond between people and a higher power or god. Four of the largest religions in the world (Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism) all follow this key principle.
