Without the slightest hesitation, he went to the door on the right, and opened it, only to find not the woman of the court he would exchange glances with, but instead his love, the woman in which he was in this situation for. With bewildered eyes, he shot a glance to where he thought the princess was sitting, when he saw that the seat was absent, he turned back to the beautiful princess. She ran to his arms and he swooped her up as a priest appeared to wed the happy couple. The king was furious, and despite the joyful cheering of the crowd, he ordered for the guards to take the man who was marrying his beloved daughter to jail. once he realized that they were in fact conversing with the man instead of dragging him away from the princess. The king soon became apprehensive as he saw the secretive glances being made up to him by the men in the center of the amphitheater. No quicker than the guards had entered the arena, they began to glide out of the amphitheater, drawing their swords. As the young man got the attention and hushed the crowd of hundreds, he made a bittersweet announcement to the people under the rule of the king.
“Dear people of the tyrant king, listen to me as I tell you that the reign of the king of oppression is over. For years, we feared of the man who’s twisted idea of fair would shower us with his wrath. Now those days of fear will be put behind us.” As the man who once had no power uttered these words, the guards had made it to the king and had ruthlessly grabbed him, knocking the crown loose from his head. sheath. Then, the man made an exclamation that left the crowd in aghast. “The cruel way of deciding guilt and innocence will be used one last time on one last criminal: the king. Yet, what lies behind his doors will be less favorable. No fair lady of any social state could do anything to deserve marriage to this tyrannical man. So, we shall give him something that he deserves. Instead of a woman, behind one door lays a most fierce tiger with no mercy, and behind the others lays a carriage in which the king will be carried away into a land far from here in an act of exile. When the king of cruelty was dragged down to the center of the amphitheater, the people in the crowd gave equal reaction of horror, anguish, joy, and celebration.
All this was happening so swiftly that no one was able to process what was really to happen. The overthrown king was pushed along with head hung low as a chant of freedom was sang throughout the amphitheater. As the newlywed couple and guards exited the stadium, the king scanned the multitude of free people with a sadness in his eyes, an anger in his stomach, and a feeling of betrayal in his heart. He realized he had no other choice that to get it over with and to turn to the menacing doors, and face his end, whether it be of his life or his reign. The influencing shouts of “left” or “right” from the crowd overwhelmed him and he blindly followed a raspy voice that stood out to
him. The former king opened the door on the right. As he opened his eyes to take in what awaited him on the other side of the door, he saw nothing. He peered around the dark passage in confusion, he heard a low rumble. Suddenly, he knew he made a foolish choice as he saw a large, gamboge paw step out from the shadows. He knew his fate and he closed his eyes along with many members of the crowd who did not wish to see the atrocious sight. The king was no more. The man and wife along with the guards came down into the amphitheater after the tiger had been taken out. “We are of a new people.” shouted the man. “We now are of a new age where the criminals should not choose their fate, yet be put on a trial. Now, let us make this new idea one we respect and keep.” The moment these words feel from his lips, the guard remembered the crown on his sheath. The guard removed the crown he had haphazardly tossed onto his sheath and gently placed the crown on the new king. The crowd cheered in tumultuous shouts of praise.
