“Charlotte glared at her children as she waited for an answer, but the twins stayed silent.” This shows me that Alex and Conner, the twins, are nervous of what's going to happen next, and don't know how to answer. The addition of it being third person shows that the twins are connected in the way they think, and have had a similar experience to do so. To add on with dialogue, after Alex tried to make normal conversation, their mother said, “Quiet. Do either of you know what you've put me through? I've been so worried, I haven't slept in months!” From this, I can tell that Charlotte is a very overprotective mother, and loves her children very much. She's literally tired, but also emotionally tired of having to not know what her kids are up to. The dialogue given by her summarizes that perfectly.
Dialogue is an effective way to give characters personality, and Chris Colfer nails that perfectly. His way of portraying feelings with a third person perspective is used very skillfully to give the reader different perspectives and reveals different parts of the plot. In Chris Colfer’s series, and in many other of his books he shows his abilities, which makes his stories more engaging and fun to
