This paper will analyze how both Matisse’s Bonheur de Vivre (Joy of Life) and Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon can be seen as direct results of inspiration originated from probably the most recognized work painted by Paul Cézanne’s, “The Large Bathers”.
Analysis

This painting was created by Paul Cézannes and exhibited in 1906 for the first time after Paul Cézannes death. It is considered a masterpiece of modern times furthermore and despite of similar paintings completed by the same artist, this one in particular is very distinguished in its design.

At the same time the colors used are very flat and if you look close you are going to notice certain segments of the canvas clearly without any paint, essentially the painting has all the characteristics of a very abstract paint.
Bonheur de Vivre [2]
After analyzing “The Large Bathers” and looking at Matisse’s work Bonheur de Vivre (Joy of Life) and Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon we can clearly see the influence of Cézannes on both paintings. To begin with, the subject matter is the same, nudity, Bonheur de Vivre shows also disproportional nude figures very similar to Cézannes, what's more the outline of some of the bodies and background look kind of shady and even though we see more color in the representation of nature still is a variation and not a monotony illustration.
Les Demoiselles d’Avignon [3]
