The Last Lecture By Randy Pausch
Do we really look into ourselves? As I read The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch over fall break, his life story made me think: How will I accomplish my dreams like Mr. Pausch? Randy’s idea of a “brick wall” really hit me because I admire that someone believes that hardships could lead to great things if they work towards it. I want to look into myself and see what life lessons that I go by the seventeen years I have been on this planet, and how they reflect what people will remember about me. My first lesson I have gone by during my seventeen years on Earth my mother have imbedded in me since I could remember. She would always say, “You go to school to get an education, and then go to college to take care of yourself.” At that time, I was around four or five years old and from then to now she will always ask me, “What do you go to school for?” and I would reply, “To get an …show more content…
This song’s chorus contains my third lesson I have learned in life which is, what does not kill someone can make them stronger. I think this goes along with Mr. Pausch’s “brick walls’ which means they are not in front of someone to stop them, but to make them work harder. So, I believe that my lesson means that what does not cause me physical or mental harm it will make me a stronger and wiser individual. I have experienced this like almost losing my 4.0 grade point average in geometry, but because I didn’t want that to happen I studied for days and hours to understand all the concepts for the midterm. I thought this would kill me and the thought of losing my 4.0 was hard to fathom. On the day of the midterm I made a hundred percent on the midterm exam and did not lose my 4.0. As of today, that really helped me and made me stronger in math. I will use this lesson in the future to never give up and that as long I am not causing harm to myself or someone else that I or anyone can accomplish

Despite his exceptionally optimistic and intellectual views, along with his major accomplishments, I would not be Randy Pausch’s friend. After reading The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch, I can see our personalities and actions would undoubtedly clash and it would make for a not so pleasant relationship. Randy and I would not be friends seeing that I would more than likely compare myself to him, inevitably making me feel bad about myself, I do not agree with a few of his somewhat selfish decisions, and because he is a particularly opinionated man that sometimes tends to offend people with his bluntness. Randy has accomplished just about every single dream he has ever set his mind to. He explained, “Whatever my accomplishments, all of the things I loved were rooted in the dreams and goals I had as a child...and in the ways, I had managed to fulfill almost all of them” (10).…

Dreams are things like wanting to have a child, wanting to be a movie producer, or simply wanting to eat cereal for dinner. On September 18, 2007, Dr. Pausch gave his memorable “last lecture” at Carnegie Mellon University. It is a tradition at Carnegie Mellon University that when a professor is retiring, they give one last lecture as their final goodbye. The idea of this lecture is to give an hour long speech that covers everything an individual would want to say if you were hypothetically dying. In spite of this, in Dr. Pausch’s case, he was literally dying with a diagnosis of terminal pancreatic cancer this being the “elephant in the room”. He then spends a minute discussing his condition where he gave detail about his ten tumors on his liver. Pausch looks like an average, healthy man, but looks can be deceiving. His doctors estimated he had about six more months…

Throughout elementary and middle school, I always thought education wasn’t as important as other things such as the sports I played, hanging out with friends and doing things that I enjoyed. I would often find myself blowing off homework and doing it last minute or not even doing it all. I’ve changed quite a bit since those days, but it took me some time to realize that what I was doing wasn’t any good for me. I believe that at some point in your life, you have to realize that education is everything and you won’t go anywhere in life without it.…
