The Last of the Mohicans Reading Response In one scene from The Last of the Mohicans, Chingachgook talks about what he feels will happen to his people in the future. He says ‘’ the frontier moves with the sun and pushes the Red Man of these wilderness forests in the front of it until one day there will be nowhere left. Then our race will be no more, or be not us.’’ 1 I think Chingachgook is trying to say that the land won’t ever be the same because it will grow and expand into a new society. He’s also saying that their culture will eventually die out and then new people will come to make the land their own; eventually theirs will die out as well. The land will always be changing because of the people’s different cultures but unfortunately we can’t stop it because it’s just the way of life. At the end of Chingachgook’s speech, he’s saying that new people will always come but the Mohicans were there once and it will always be remembered.
This movie showed many points that examined culture identity. The first nation’s society has grown to be very similar to the European society in many ways. Their way of life has been absorbed into a European society. In the past, first nations lived out of their teepees which they made with their own 2 hands out of buffalo skin and wooden poles but nowadays the first nations live in houses just like the Europeans. They have electronics, vehicles, and nice clothes, just like us which I think is the biggest point about how they’ve changed. Another major point is that they don’t have to hunt for days on end trying to find something to feed their family, now in the present day they can go to the grocery store and buy food for their family. The first nation’s society is different than the European society in more ways than one. Many first nations live in cities, go to work and school, yet their traditional values are still very strong and important. One of their first most
