The Ledge Character Analysis

Ledge of Death Giving a highly dangerous and possibly deadly adventure of two mountaineers who fall into a crevasse while descending Mt. Renier, The Ledge by James Davidson and Kevin Vaughan, an award winning book, is a book about survival and friendship. The character originally describes the setting as devastating due to the ominousness of the crevasse. As described in the text, “We’re stuck on a tiny ledge, trapped alone inside this miles-long glacier” (Davidson & Vaughan). Because of the size of the glacial walls, the author also presents an overwhelming tone to add to the level of seriousness. According to the text, “That sunlit hole is the only way out of here, the only way back to life” (Davidson & Vaughan). In this case, another factor
adding to the desperation of the men are the plethora of explicit details. For example, “The rope drops down at least twenty feet without touching anything; beyond that I see nothing” (Davidson & Vaughan). Their only way to get back to life again is to climb out of the crevasse before the sun goes down. “We’re in big, big trouble” (Davidson & Vaughan).
