First of all, it was incredibly predictable. Many times, things were resolved through something very convenient happening totally out of nowhere and by surprise. For example, the main character Jacob, many times, almost died but was miraculously saved because some person or some thing appeared out of nowhere. Jacob gets a headache, he senses the hollows, the hollows appear and Jacob gets rid of them. The same pattern repeats its self over and over which gets the reader bored.
However, despite the lack of suspense, overall the book was extremely interesting. Riggs’s creepy photographs, spread throughout the book were enjoyable and added mystery into the story. My favorite part was how Jacob Portman, the main character, grow and change throughout the 3 books. At first he was incredibly unskilled, weak and confused. He didn’t know anything about his powers and what he was capable of and was extremely passive. However, he was encouraged by his friends and companions and he gradually became more brave and confident. I also liked how the third book started, since the second book ended with a cliffhanger, with Jacob and Emma’s lives at
