and followed that up in 1969 beating Joe Frazier in the “fight of the century.” In these events Ali completely dominated the fights. All of his hard work dating back from when he was 12 shone through in the fights.
“Why should they ask me to put on a uniform and go 10,000 miles from home and drop bombs and bullets on Brown people in Vietnam while so-called Negro people in Louisville are treated like dogs and denied simple rights.” When Muhammad Ali was drafted into the Army. he refused to go because of how segregated Louisville was. If I were Ali I would probably think the same thing in my head, but not have the guts to say it. This is a perfect example of how he is a hero to so many people. Heroes are the type of people who find a problem and decide to fix it. Black rights were a huge problem at the time and everybody knew it wasn’t right, but Ali had the presence of mind to actually say something.
Ali was an extremely hard worker on and off the ring. One common theme with Ali was that he always worked his hardest and was resilient, whether he was training for boxing, fighting in a match, or giving speeches preaching about stopping segregation. Muhammad had the confidence to get up in front of people and give moving speeches about what he stood for, his confidence in boxing on the other hand comes with quotes such as “I am the Greatest,” this is Ali saying what he believes, this created a certain level of intimidation for his competitors and it seemed to work. Muhammad had a dominant and successful adult career to say the least.
