Anthem Essay
Anthem is a novel written by, Ayn Rand. It is a story that portrays an inspiring hero that goes against society to do something that they believe in. Once society turns them down and imprisons Equality 7-2521, they escape and make headway to the Uncharted Forest. During Equality 7-2521’s journey, he comes across Liberty 5-3000 and they continue their trek across the Uncharted Forest together. Soon, they make it to a house in the mountains and fall in love. Throughout the story, Equality 7-2521 has been addressed as a group. Not as an individual person. He realizes this when he has been living in the house in the mountains for a long period of time and with Liberty 5-300 or, The Golden One, is pregnant with their first child. He realizes that when he addresses himself as “I,” it brings him peace and pride. This new discovery has brought hope, liberation, and new beginnings.
Hope is a unique concept. It can lead to both good, and bad things. Hope can be for the little things, like getting the job you wanted, to someone close to you waking up from a coma. Though, it can give you something you never would want. Having hope for getting asked to prom and when the time comes, they are dancing alone, ends up crushing someone. Hope is delicate and fragile. It is confusing, yet it is the simplest thing in the world. Some learn to never have hope, and some learn to take the consequences, good and bad, for having hope.
During Equality 7-2521’s career as a street sweeper, he comes across an “iron grill over a black hole”. He explored the hole until the light ran out. Equality 7-2521 realized that that tunnel was a part of the Unmentionable Times. Those times held secrets that have been lost by the brothers of his time. So much of what has been a part of the time today has been forgotten, so the men and women of their time have had to start over. It is true when they say that history
