The Little Mermaid

The Broadway play which I went to see was located at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater, 205 West 46th street. This is considered the heart of the theater district in New York City. The play which I saw was The Little Mermaid presented by Disney. As an 18 year old male, I was not very fond of seeing a Disney play but, my girlfriend wanted to see the show so, I had to come tag along. In the rest of this paper I will give a review of how my day went: Getting to the play, the theater, the play itself, the surroundings, the people, the audience’s response, and other aspects of the show.

The show started at 8pm, so I decided it would be good to leave my neighborhood at about 6pm to account for the traffic and finding parking in Manhattan, as you can see I drove. We ended up leaving queens at about 6:30pm and getting to the location of the play at about 7:15pm. We made very good timing and there was very little traffic. The worst part of getting to the play was finding parking; we had to circle around the block about 10 times before we finally found someone pulling out of a spot. By this time it was about 7:45pm, we were 2 blocks

There costumes seemed to be very nice but, I feel that Flounder’s costume could have been improved. The costumes of all the characters made it easy to distinguish who was who and they all had very good singing voices. My girlfriend also sings and she mentioned that they had very good voices. The orchestra played the theme music well and sounded spectacular. One thing which I disliked was that the orchestra was playing underneath the stage and it was very hard to see them. I feel they did not give enough recognition to the orchestra who play a very big role in the

The 1989 movie Heathers had a cult following, people today have the same passion for Heathers: The Musical. I had first heard of the musical from people online raving about how good it was and how catchy the songs are. Have you ever wondered where the origins of theatre began? It is a well-known fact that the earliest forms of drama were developed in Ancient Greek by philosophers interested in using entertainment for social and philosophical commentary. It is essential that young people are exposed to the earliest form of scripted drama as it provides a foundation for understanding dramatic styles and conventions which are the basis for all the theatre which followed.…

I enjoyed the play because the story and music is very interesting, unique and entertaining. I have seen the play before in Las Vegas and I must say that the cast in Las Vegas was much better than the one I saw on Thursday night. The reason is because it went more in-depth with the story and also played every single hit that the band had made. Also, the singers in Las Vegas were much more professional and sounded better because the actor portraying Frankie Valli did not have such a high pitched voice as the one in Curran Theatre. My favorite composition from the band was Beggin because the tempo and beat was so fast-paced and it was impressive how the band had bright stage lights and fascinating dance moves. The music contained catchy rhythms and beats. Some notes would stretch out to make a nice vocal sound and some were just quick beats from the drums. The staging was very flashy because they had different stage lights with different colors for each part of the story. The costumes were very well suited. They actors wore fancy suits and some had a fancy top hot to match their costume. I thought the the whole play went fairly well and the audience seemed to really enjoy it. The music was pleasant and relaxing, the actors were spot on with no mistakes during the show and the crowd was very enthusiastic. The only part I had a slight…

Of the many live performances I have been able to see, by far my favorite is Wicked. I have always been drawn to plays that are fantasy-based versus those that focus on realism. Wicked is a complete fun-ride of fantasy from beginning to end. From it's variety of outrageous characters to it's musical score, each aspect of drama is clear and defined in this play. Theme, music, and spectacle will be the focus in this essay, but that is not to say each aspect does not have a role in the show. Wicked presents the aspects of drama in a way that an audience remembers.…

This Broadway play has been around for a long time. It captured people’s attention from the clothes they wore, to the beautiful melody from Frankie Valli. This play is set in the 1960’s; it is based on Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Through a musical it talks about their lives, where they grew up, and the struggles they went through to get to fame. They came from nothing, living in a poor area, in a little shack house, to fame and wealth. Their sweet voices took them far in life, accomplishing many of their goals, to scoring not one but a couple hit songs like, “Sherry,” “Big Girl’s don’t cry,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,” “Oh What a Night,” and so on. When I first walked in I didn’t know what to expect, except hearing how good this play was. My thoughts were a boring play to sit through and get it over with but it captured my eyes from the moment they started singing. Their unique voices were so calm, sweet and inviting that you wanted to just listen or sing along but never was there a dull moment. Not only was the music capturing but the clothes and the colorful set opened up your eyes. They chose the right setting, the perfect performers to make this show a phenomenon. Looking at everyone’s faces how they were enjoying themselves and people just not taking their eyes off the set really showed you that this performance was a hit. Seeing a group accomplish so much from where they came from sets the right message to those who are in the same situation. Not only is this an amazing show but also an inspirational story to many who do not have the money to go far with their gifts but can work hard and still accomplish what they did. Showing that life is not all about money but that you can still do what you love if you follow your dream and work your way…

One thing I generally enjoyed the way they portrayed most of the characters. The characters had certain aspects to them that were exaggerated, and made it humorous but obvious what and who they were trying to portray. Though it was almost the border line of stereotyping the characters into a typical classification of a college liberal arts professor, a nun (personally my favorite), or a pair of over dramatic teenagers who are love struck half the time or too busy pouting with each other like the norm for a overdramatic teenage girl, besides, stereotypes exsist for a reason (not that they're right all the time either) . But all in all, that's what made them enjoyable, and able to laugh at. The costumes were also very helpful in portraying the characters and their personality. The costumes had a way of portraying these characters through half-stereotypical peiecs, like the required turtle neck and hipster glasses for a liberal arts professor, or the obligatory blouse and siut jacket for the lawyer and you cant forget the average white girl look either, with the boots, skinny jeans, sweater and a obligatory scarf to top it all off. And the scrubs uniform for the doctor as well as the unrevealing dress for the nun couldn't go unmentioned.…

    Seminar Play Analysis

On November 20th I went to the Black Box theatre to see the play Seminar. It was a small production, and there were only five actors. Going into the play, I had no idea what to expect. I had heard the play was a bit raunchy, with explicit dialogue and provocative scenes. The play started out with four actors portraying college graduate writers. I loved how realistic the setting was; it really looked like somebody’s real apartment. The actors did very well portraying emotion, and every thing they did and said I could relate to. At one point, a girl was eating real ice cream and complaining on the couch to her friend. I thought it was funny how every girl could relate to that scene. I also liked that the actor had no problem devouring ice cream on top of memorizing her lines and acting at the same time. I would find it hard not to focus on anything other than the delicious taste of the ice cream.…

While many will agree that Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night is critically acclaimed to be one of the most entertaining and well-liked pieces that he has written, there tends to be a discrepancy over how the characters in the play are portrayed when it comes to the importance of gender roles. After reading James C Bulman’s article over the Globe’s more recent performance of Twelfth Night and Shakespeare’s original written version, I realized that there are many ways that this famous piece has been portrayed and each has its own pros and cons.…

When I went to go see The Lion King on Broadway a few words came to mind after the play; amazing, stunning, and unbelievable! I was a little unsure at first, because I thought I was too young to see something from a Disney World production. I was also wondering how Disney was going to manage putting a film starring non-human characters, into a three-dimensional stage. However, using all their “Disney magic” with a little help from a great stage producer The Lion King Musical kept my attention all the way through with their; voice and diction, staging, and many other elements.…

In this writing piece I shall share a personal journal of my acquaintanceship with a world of stage drama that was just there in the alleys of midtown Manhattan along with other passing commercial business enterprises. This is the side of arts and literature that remained producing and presenting theater shows to the urban public. I rarely thought that I could hardly relate to this realm of theatrics, especially being a twenty first century metro dweller. As I set off my expedition hunt for the literature rich Treasure Island through the city-borough into the Broadway box, little did I know that I would so to speak stumble upon and unlock the metaphorical Pandora’s Box. After opening the majestic vault I was as if in the midst of the gems and jewels that aroused from the 42nd street neighborhood entity. I got enlightened by encountering a gemstone from this collection of treasures and trinkets known as “The Phantom of The Opera.”…

Mary Poppins has been one of my favorite childhood memories when I was growing up. I grew up watching the movie almost every day, and when I turned thirteen my parents decided to take me to the play. I’ve seen the play three times now and it is still one of my favorites. This play has a lot of meaning to me because it reminds me of my childhood; it also reminds me of my dad because Mary Poppins is his favorite Disney movie. The first Broadway Musical show that I saw was the Lion King. This musical is perhaps the most popular amongst them all. Critic Linda Winer, from News Day reported on January 14th, 2013, that quotes “This is a magnificent, wonderful, and jaw dropping show”. She continued to say the show and playhouse were enchanting and the production is worth every single penny. I recommend that when you do visit, you schedule a day to watch this amazing production and see how the vibrant colors and sounds bring each animal to life. There is many other Broadway musicals such as Wicked, Matilda, Wizard of Oz, Aladdin, Mamma Mia, as well as many others. Generally, when people attend these shows they dress in fabulous, trendy and fancy outfits. In fact, Broadway musicals produce an immense amount of money for New York City; they almost produce more money than the treasury…

When the musical ended, almost three hours after it began, the audience seemed not to be tired but, in fact, re-energized. Instead of snoozing in their seats, the audience sprang up to give a standing ovation to the very deserving cast. So, what made this musical stand out as spectacular? Yes, the classic, feel-good love story and superb acting certainly were important factors, but what contributed most to the success of Guys and Dolls was the undying energy exhibited by every member of the musical’s cast.…

The play was written by Walter Ventosilla and directed by Julian J. Mesri. The play was an exploration of the ironies we shape for ourselves through our passions. In train station three characters of different times met to come face to face with the cruel product of their dreams and the soothing memories of a lily flower. 12 performances were presented in Spanish with English supertitles for 12 performances from Sept. 12 to Oct. 3,…
