The Locket By Kate Chopin
"The Locket" by Kate Chopin is at first a tragic short story about two young lovers. One could view this short story as unpredictable and at times confusing. At first Edmund is alive and wearing the locket. Next the locket is found on a dead soldier and it is returned to Octavie. Of course she believes her lover is dead, only to find out he is alive. The short story opens with Edmund sitting around the fire talking with other soldiers. One soldier notices the locket around his neck and asks him about it. The soldiers joke about what the locket is. One asks, "is it your sweetheart's picture" (Chopin, The Locket). Another one jokes, "that's a charm; soem kind of hoodoo business" (Chopin, The Locket). The talk about the locket around his neck has him missing his girlfriend. In the opening of the short story, one learns of the locket and who gave it to Edmund. …show more content…
It is no longer the soldiers talking but a black bird. The black bird is sitting in a tree to trying to understand what is going on below him. He sits there all day trying to figure it out. Finally he says, "they are children playing a game" (Chopin, The Locket). One could guess it was a battle the soldiers were fighting and the bird was watching it. It was indeed a battle as a clergyman is in the field looking for soldiers who are still alive. This is when the locket is found a dead soldier. So one would think Edmund is

Edmund, who was introduced as the son of peasants, was considered to be an unsuitable candidate for Emma; the daughter of a Baron. Lord Fitz-Owen cares deeply for Edmund, and as Sir Phillip noted, so does his son William who shares the same ‘filial affection’ as his father. When Sir Phillip exclaims “What remains but to make him yours?”, Reeves is referring to the fact that reinstating Edmund’s social hierarchy now officially makes him ‘worthy’ of marrying Emma in Lord Fitz-Owen’s eyes. Lord Fitz-Owen also understands Edmund’s heir restoration also means evicting him out of his own castle. Sir Phillip is rationalizing with the Baron, explaining his personal relationship with Edmund hasn’t changed and that he’s “worthy of such…

The locket was a Drama short story written by Kate Chopin. This story is about a boy named Edmond who lost his locket while he was sleeping. Later in the story you find out it was stolen by a boy he was associated with in the army. The story implies that Edmond has died, because the boy that stole the locket was wearing the locket when he died. When Edmond finally arrived home everyone found out the truth. I personally do not believe this was a predictable ending with how the writer told the story.…

In “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, there are many literary elements that make it very diverse from most short storied about a husband and wife. The author uses similes, metaphors, and much irony throughout the story that gives it the strange but interesting meaning it portrays. The literary terms in this story allow the reader to feel the emotion of the character, and the irony enhances the bitter-sweetness of the ending.…

Gloucester exits…. Edmund— this is a fantastic illustration of the foolishness of the world: when we are despondent often as a result of our own desires, then we all put the fault on the nature like sun, moon and starts, as they pressurized us for showing the evil nature, and the deeds we had done. What a timid behaviour of all mankind of blaming the nature of their deeds. Whether I am illegitimate son, but there is no doubt the most virginal star in the sky had twinkled at my origination.…

Written by Kate Chopin during the Victorian period, The Awakening deals with woman’s rights issues such as women in society, women’s roles, and women’s personal identity. More specifically, the narrator and protagonist, Edna Pontellier desires the aspects of love outside of her loveless marriage, and pursues a way to fit in to an incompatible society. Compared to Adele Ratignolle, the ideal woman and mother of the time, Edna is subpar with the attention she gives her family. As a way to find herself and find some happiness, Edna seeks to empowerment by believing that freedom can be obtained through impulsive and taboo actions. Women of the Victorian Era had to find a suitable identity that was acceptable in society, but Edna runs from the responsibilities and seeks her own…
