The Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis
“But if we can't live together, we're going to die alone.” In the book The Lord of the Flies has many similarities to the 2004 TV series “Lost.” They both entail stories of a plane crash and how the survivors stayed alive on the deserted island. The main character, Ralph, in The Lord of the Flies, is appointed the job as the leader of the survivors and has to keep everyone not only alive, but also sane. In “Lost,” Jack Shepard is given this job and they both have to face many challenges to keep everyone safe and healthy. Sayid Jarrah, from “Lost,” is also a great leader in helping build and contact others on the island. They both split up the ones who survived the crash into groups with different jobs to make what needed to get done, done. In chapter 2, Ralph said, “We’ve got to have special people for looking after the fire. Any day there may be a ship out there and if we have a signal going they’ll come and take us off. And another thing. We ought to have more rules. Where the conch is, that’s a meeting. The same up here as down there.” (Golding, 42) By saying this to everyone, he is taking charge and making sure there are people to look after the fire and also that everyone doesn’t run around like animals with the conch. He was saying that the fire is important to have because it could signal a passing ship and they could get rescued. Then, Jack from Lost said, “We can’t do this,” when talking about the people not working together, “Every man for himself isn’t going to work. It’s time to start organizing. We need to figure out how we're going to survive here. Now, I found water. Fresh water, up in the valley. I'll take a group in at first light. If you don't want to go come then find another way to contribute.” (1.5) This quote shows Jack taking charge, organizing everyone and having people start to contribute to the survival of everyone. He is doing his part by being a leader and now he is directing others to find a way they can help too. Being organized creates a calm atmosphere in hectic
