The Magna Carta was signed in June 1215 between Medieval England and King John. The word Magna Carta comes from the Latin word great charter. The Magna Carta was one of the most important documents of Medieval England. It was signed with a royal seal between the towns people and King John. The document was written promises between the king and his people. He promised the people that he would govern England right using the federal law. The document was made because the king was abusing his powers and the people wanted it to end, and this document limited his powers. As a king he did not want to sign, I mean like if you where as king would you just give up power like that? The towns people gave him a proposition, at this time England owned some land in France, so the people offered him money and men to protect this land. The king did not accept and kept asking for higher taxes and abusing his powers. By 1204 King John had lost his land in France. When he lost his land in an upse he increased taxes again, this was against the feudal law. Not only did he raise the taxes he took from the churches and closed most of them down. The churches where so bad that the pope had tell King John that if he doesn’t give back to the churches he will go to hell. With that statement the king stop taking away from the churches in 1214. Once again with loosing another battle for land he once again demanded for more taxes. This time the towns people didn’t accept this, they fought back and tried to take over Londen although they did not defeat King John, it was strong enough to make King John rethink his decision about the magna carta. He then signed the document in 1215.
