Yamtuan Antah’s main contribution to the Malayan history is that he was patriotic and courageous enough to take action against Datuk Kelana and the British to save his state, Negeri Sembilan, from being colonized. He was adamant and persistent even though there were many battles he had to go through to maintain his stand. His actions followed a timeline which started from Datuk Kelana’s act of bringing in a Briton into Sungai Ujong, up until the truce he had with the British. His struggles to maintain Negeri Sembilan started with Datuk Kelana’s acts of bringing in Britons into the state. Datuk Kelana, whose real name was Datuk Laksamana Syed Abdul Rahman, made a treaty in March 1872 and allowed Briton Henry Velge to open a tin mine in Sungai Ujong. In April 1874, Datuk Kelana along with Datuk Muda Linggi went to Singapore to make an agreement with Andrew Clarke, a British representative, to give protection to Sungai Ujong, which would put Sungai Ujong in risk of being colonized and ruled by the British. Additionally, in August 1874, Datuk Kelana sent a letter to Andrew
