When Ken and Leon find the body of their grandfather under the big cottonwood tree they seem to handle the situation rather well. When they discovered the body, which has apparently been lying under the tree for at least a day Leon and Ken herd the sheep back to the camp and return by truck to the body. They don’t seem to be saddened at all which a lot of people in that situation would be. They just go right along with tying a feather in the old man's white hair and painting his face. When Leon is finished painting he steps back and smiles at the face of his grandfather showing no emotion and asks the old man to send some rain clouds.
The only character that showed any emotion at all in the story “the Man to Send Rain Clouds” was the priest. When Leon tells Father Paul that his grandfather has passed away father is upset that he was not notified earlier so that he could have performed the last rights and a funeral mass. The only thing Leon wants is Father Paul to throw holy water on the body so that it would bring good luck. Leon`s wife thought it would be a good idea that father Paul bless Teofilo`s body because she thought it would be good luck and Teofilo would send the rain clouds so there crops could grow and they would have a good harvesting season. Teofilo sending the rain clouds was all they really seemed to care about.
In the story “The Man to Send Rain Clouds” when the man in the story dies, instead of being full of sorrow and regret, the people are grateful that the man will send rain clouds down
