This paper is giving me a chance to write about my favorite show of all time. I am a very big fan of The Simpsons and have always wondered if some of the characters had some kind of personality disorders until now. After reading the information in the book and in the lectures I have come to understand exactly what kind of personality disorders are being portrayed in the show. I am writing this based on the movie and not one of the shows. The first character that I am going to analysis is going to be Montgomery Burns. Mr. Burns is the owner of The Springfield Nuclear Plant. He claims that he was born in 1881 which would make him somewhere between the age of 122 and 123. I believe that Mr. Burns is suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. According to the DSM-IV-TR, in order to be diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder on must show at least five symptoms from the criteria list of nine. Mr. Burns shows many more than just five symptoms and this is why I believe that he is suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Mr. Burns shows signs of having an excessive need to be admired by everyone in the community even thought everyone views him as a cold hearted and unfair individual. He still feels the need for admiration even thought he knows others views about him. He also believes that he is the most important person in all of Springfield, and that there is no one of higher power then him.
Montgomery Burns uses his money and power to do whatever he wants regardless of how people view him and of the consequences that could come from the law and other individuals. He believes that he is a very special and unique person, the only one of his kind, who should always be in the limelight. His is unable to show empathy for anyone. Instead of listening to a single person’s problems or concerns when they come to see him he releases the hounds on them. He doesn’t even care about the feelings of his very loyal
