Isaiah the prophet whom condemned Israel and Judah for their unfaithfulness, yet he also spoke of hope for the people. A prophet is someone who stands up for the marginalized and speaks for God. Isaiah is a man who is known for telling the truth to the rich and powerful, and standing up for the poor. He spoke against the kings of Israel who were corrupt, worshipped false gods, and oppressed the poor. Isaiah’s main messages are one of judgment, hope, and forgiveness.

Isaiah lived during the period of 742-500 BCE. He was born in the Kingdom of Israel, and his father was name Amoz. Around the year 742 BCE he began his career as a prophet in the temple, this happened during the reign of Uzziah(The Catholic Youth Bible). Isaiah is a unique book,

Isaiah spoke told Israel that there rebellion against God would come at a price(The Bible Project). The sins of Israel has caught up with them. The price of Israel’s sin is them being conquered by the Assyrian empire. Isaiah told them “God will purify Israel through fire and it will rise again in holiness”(The Bible Project). The purification of Israel will come through the Assyrian conquering and scattering the people throughout the ancient world (Bergant). Isaiah’s message of judgement was not his only message, he also prophesied hope that one day Israel and Judah would unite under God’s covenant. Isaiah’s message of hope was one that the people of Israel and Judah needed to hear. He proclaimed that “God would fulfill his covenant promises and bring blessings to the nations”(The Bible Project). God wants to fulfill his covenant, but the people of Judah are too focused on idolatry. Another message of hope is the coming of the messiah, Isaiah is one of the messianic prophets. “Messianic Prophecies which tell of the coming of a perfect king”(The Catholic Youth Bible). This is the perfect embodiment of hope for Judah. Isaiah’s last message is one of …show more content…
These books talk a lot about hope for the future. As a teenager I have a lot of hopes and dreams for the future. Such as having a family and helping others. If I trust in God he can help me achieve these goals. This book also talks about justice for the poor. This is like how Isaiah told the people of Judah and Israel to trust in God and have hope. This is parallel to how I am going to do my junior service. Each organization for junior service is made to help a group of marginalized people. Isaiah told the rich and powerful to help and care for the marginalized. These are some ways that the book of Isaiah can be applied to my daily

Isaiah’s contribution to the development and expression of Judaism was heavily influenced by the political and religious context of his time. In the midst of political and religious instability in Judah’s history, Isaiah, was a recognisable source of hope and guidance, and paved the way for the expression of modern Judaism. The evident political and religious instability, was to be vastly influenced by Isaiah’s works. Isaiah took an active role in the development and expression of Judaism in his time, through his influence in the guidance of the aristocracy, providing guidance even for the kings. “Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah: Go and tell Hezekiah… ‘I have heard your prayers and seen your tears… I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria” (Isaiah 38:4-6) Isaiah, as the mediator between God and his people, forespoke guidance both politically and religiously, redirecting the Jews back to Mosaic Law. As a result, Isaiah instilled within the hearts of Jews faith in God, in a time of suffering and religious apathy.…

I believe that these verses from Isaiah are telling us that when war and destruction have almost destroyed the earth many people will seek out peace and will go up to the temple of the Lord in Jerusalem and will learn from the Lords teachings and will learn how to live by God’s law and word. Then these people will go out into the world and teach others these ways and this will be peace to the world and will end all fighting.…

Walter Kaiser warns against using the New Testament to reinterpret passages of the Old Testament while discounting the meaning of the original author. Kaiser states that the meaning established by the original author is important and to ignore it “is to make nonsense out of the revelation…” He does acknowledge, however, that while the author may not have a sense of writing prophetically, the Holy Spirit promulgates the underlying theme of the “Promise”. This approach provides a basic framework with which this passage may be viewed.…

    A Commentary on Isaiah 6

Isaiah 6 is written with a mixture of prose and verse, detailing the calling, or commission, of Isaiah by the Lord God. Much of the verse is written in the style of a vision, detailing message to the people of Judea. The main theme running through Isaiah is the message of salvation, even the name of the prophet means ‘salvation of Yahweh’. The book is first of the ‘major prophets’, so called due to its greater length than the shorter ‘minor prophets’ or ‘twelve prophets’. In the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible and in all other English Bibles, the book follows on from the Song of Solomon or Song of Songs. However in the Hebrew Bible, it is seen after 2 Kings, which A.S. Herbert states is ‘a more natural order since this prophet [Isaiah] was deeply involved in the historical events of his day’ and gave a ‘distinctive interpretation of these events’ (1973:1). The genre of the book is mainly of a prophetic nature, with a mixture of oracles, prophesies and reports of the situation in Judah; however it does deviate from this, most notably in chapter 13, where it takes the form of a supposed psalm. This book is written at a time of great strife for the region of Israel. The region has split into two kingdoms, the Assyrian empire is closing in around them and the death of Jeroboam II of Israel (745 BC) and the death Uzziah of Judah (742) ended a time of peace, security and prosperity for both states. Soon after Jeroboams death, civil war broke out in Israel and in 721 BC the Assyrian armies completely subjugated the kingdom. So, we can see that Isaiah is writing in a time of great conflict and insecurity, which increased throughout his prophetic life, ending in the unavoidable conquering of the small Judean kingdom by the Assyrian empire.…

Jeremiah (c. 655 BC - 586 BC) meaning "Yah exalts", also called the "Weeping prophet" was one of the major prophets of the Hebrew Bible. Jeremiah is traditionally credited with authoring the Book of Jeremiah,1 Kings, 2 Kings and the Book of Lamentations, with the assistance and under the editorship of Baruch been Neriah, his scribe and disciple. Judaism considers the Book of Jeremiah part of its canon, and regards Jeremiah as the second of the Major Prophets. Islam considers Jeremiah a prophet, and is listed as a prophet in all the collections of Stories of the Prophets. Christianity also regards Jeremiah as a prophet and he is quoted in the New Testament. It has been interpreted that Jeremiah “spiritualized and individualized religion and insisted upon the primacy of the individual’s relationship with God.”…

Isaiah highlighted for me just how ugly sin really is. Througout Isaiah, we are shown a people who are so busy willingly chasing after the flashy lures of sin that they could not look up, to the goodness and glory of God. Sin blinded and and bound the people, and they refused to be made well. It can be hard to understand how Israel could be set so stubbornley in their rebellion.…

Salvation in the book of Isaiah comes in many forms. Salvation is referenced in deliverance, in this case from the Assyrians. Also, salvation is personal (“my salvation,” 12:2; “the Lord will save me,”38:20). “Since Isaiah’s idea of salvation connected with the concepts of redemption, deliverance, righteousness, and justice, it is necessary to take up these ideas also to get a complete picture of what the prophet meant by the words “save”, “savior”, and “salvation” (Old Testament Survey pg 384).…

It is litany of the failures of powerless the rulers in both kingdoms and their resulting judgments.
