While we are all well aware that we don’t live in the times of “Enlightenment” no more, people do still commit crimes and make decisions that go against the way of life of our legal system therefore they should be punished for it. Citizens are afforded with the eight amendment which protects them from unusual and cruel punishment. However, at the same time the punishment given to those who committed crimes should be also strong enough to keep that offender from committing that or other crimes. …show more content…
The same way that the offender made his own decision and broke the law he should be addressed by his own conduct determining the criminal mental state presented at the time that the crime was committed.
It is extremely difficult to find a reason why crimes are committed. Some people have the best families with the best education and they still commit crimes. I believe nothing is absolute. The same way that deterrence will not absolutely prevent crime, neither does having the best families with the best education and background.
