He was one of the best hunters known-- if not, he was the best hunter known around in the area they were in. That is, until Rainsford ends up on the island because he accidentally fell off his yacht for trying to regain possession of his pipe that had fallen out of his hands. While trying to lunge for the pipe, he lost balance and fell over board. When he fell, he was overtaken by waves of the salty Caribbean waters. He tried and tried yelling for help while trying to gain a closer distance to the boat so he could try to get back aboard the yacht. He had remembered that there was a numerous amount of shots near his right side. He swam there and ended up finding General. Rainsford would hunt for animals, just like General Zaroff. But one day, Zaroff got tired of just hunting for animals. So he and Rainsford started a ‘little game.’ They were in a war to see who could survive. So, they both used completely different strategies to try to capture and kill one another. They both used what knowledge they had of hunting with other animals in their war with each other. They used different things with for their shelter and they would watch their backs because they could pop out anywhere at anytime.
