The Movie 'Changed In The Film The Blind Side'
The Blind Side
An African american teenager named Michael Oher was spotted by Leigh Anne Tuohy wearing nothing but a t-shirt and shorts in the dead of winter. Without hesitation Leigh Tuohy invites him to stay in the Tuohy home for the night. What began as a kind gesture turns into something bigger as Michael becomes part of the family despite their differences. As the family helps Michael to fill his full potential on and off the field, the presence of Michael in the Tuohy’s lives leads them to some insightful self discoveries. Attitudes and Values that Changed The Blind Side placed a variety of attitudes and values that changed as the movie progressed. At the beginning the teachers were not all that supportive of enrolling Michael

Many caucasian people were rich while all of the african americans seemed to be on the poor side. This came about when the Tuohy family saw Michael for the first time. Michael was at a volleyball game picking up popcorn that was left behind by fans for the janitors to pick up or even when Mrs. Tuohy took Michael to see his mom. It was clear that Mrs. Tuohy was not from that area considering she was wearing business attire and the group outside the apartment area looked to be in ragged clothes. Now a days it is a combination of both caucasians and african americans who are both poor or rich. Race again was brought out at the football game. A fan in the stands made comments about how it was unfair that they had a black person on the team. The son of that fan kicked Michael in the head and was making rude comments. On top of that the referee did nothing about the kicking but gave penalty yards to the team Michael was on all for the coach defending his player. For me it showed that racism is something you are not born with but taught. Today’s society racism is targeted again more towards african americans. I think that the movie really represented this aspect as much as they possibly could. For me it just reinstated the fact that it does not matter what your race, religion, age, etc is but that everyone is human and that we should all be treated equally. The Blind Side is an exceptional way to break the wall that

I do not like the part when the Black people started marching down the road of Pierce City in a nonviolent way and got attacked. White people started throwing rock at the Black protestor and violently threatened them. I also did not like when the older residents of Arkansas answered, “The another reason why I moved to Arkansas is there is no black people here.” It saddened me to see how some groups of the same species of human beings were treated incorrectly.…

One major theme of The Blind Side was to judge people based on their charter and not on their appearance. When Michael had first started at Briarcrest Christian School the teachers deemed him unreachable. Michael was a sight to behold at school because he was huge and black. I wasn’t until a teacher gave him a test orally did they find out that he was like a sponge that soaked up the information he was given. After teachers found out that he was paying attention they started to reach out and help Michael in ways they were not before.…

This film was absolutely shocking to me there is so much going on here with some humor add into it. Racism has always been a great problem in our society. As many of us would like to think it does not exist anymore, it very much does. It seems very obvious that the film was written by an african americans because it takes the point of view on how they view racism. although this film was in 1989 I still think it fairly modern and many people can relate to it. I like how this film shows how every race acts around african americans, although very true but with humor at the same time. I think this film showed great aspects to where the africans americans are wrong and where they are right. One example where we can tell that racism is taken over to the extreme but at the same time funny is when the caucasian scuffs Buggins's shoe. His friends peer pressure him that it was done on purpose. The white man apologizes and yet Buggin is still causing drama and insulting the man. After insulting…

In the beginning of the documentary we were asked a couple of questions what is race and if race existed and before taking this class and watching the movie I would have said yes race does exist because growing up I believed race was what we were not who we are. A lot of people have suffered because of race especially black people because we have never and never will achieve the whiteness per say as everyone else who have come to this country. Overall I like the documentary because I think it has or will open up people eyes and make them realize that there is no validity behind the word race. There were several parts I didn’t like and made me mad because I believe people from different ethnicities’ would not have been mistreated if the European people were not so afraid or felt that they were superior to everyone else..…

Also before I did not really think about how in movies the slaves praise their master and are happy with their master. In reality maybe the house slaves were treated a little better, but because the blacks are represented as happy the whites were then forced to believe that blacks did not care about being a slave. It definitely made me back track to other movies I have watched where the black is played out to be “more black.” For example I really reflected how in even in today’s movies like “White Chicks,” the two male actors act very “Ghetto” fitting the stereotypes of eating fried chicken, kool aid, starting trouble and being womanizers. This has not been the only movie where blacks are played out to be blacker, I have also noticed that in order to make an actor appear blacker the producers tend to make a black actor the only black friend in a group of white people. This video really made me reflect and think about how blacks are still perceived the same way as they were many years ago and will most likely continue to be perceived that…
