The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Paper
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test which provides a definition and well-ordered descriptions of one’s behaviors and traits. There are four continua of traits that generate 16 unique personality types. Upon completion of the MBTI, I received the personality type ENFJ. The findings and descriptions of how each trait and the overall temperament rating connect to my work, life, and personal habits are discussed. Introduction In 1943, the mother and daughter team of Katharine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers published the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire. These are often confused intelligence, however this is “very far from the truth” (EMIS Group, 2015). This trait relates to how a person relies on understanding people and perspective-taking over impersonal reasoning (The Four Temperaments, 2012). My score of 28% is right on track. I have been accused of putting others’ feelings and needs before my own, sometimes to my detriment. Kroeger et al. (2002, p.23) discuss how a Feeler many times overextends himself to meet the needs of others, often at his own physical or financial expense. I have difficulty saying no to people who ask for help. When a family member or friend asks to borrow my truck and time to help them move, I’m unwilling to say no, even though I might have previous …show more content…
We have varied personality types and strength/weakness patterns. Understanding these, and how to play to our collective strengths, is vital to our success as an organization. I can think about personality at the individual and organizational level. The unique collection of individual personality types combines to create our organizational personality profile.     The historical backdrop of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) began with Carl Jung, the organiser of analytical psychology. Jung believed that individuals are either stimulated by the outer world (Extraversion) or their own inner world (Introversion). In the same way Jung observed individuals took in data (Perceiving) or organise data and frame a conclusion (Judging). Additionally Jung noted that individuals mostly demonstrate a dominant part. In this way, in 1921, Jung distributed Psychological Types in which he displayed the thought of Jungian models (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Manual, 2012). Isabel Myers-Briggs developed the MBTI in the 1920s based on Jung’s theoretical constructs with an additional two dimensions of styles of living, consisting of a fourth scale that measures perceiving and judging (Myers, McCaully, Quenck, & Hammer, 2003; Mullins, 2005; Schreuder & Coetzee, 2011). Jung was the first to propose the theory of psychological type, while Myers and Briggs were the proponents of the research and creation of the actual test.
