The Mysterious Benedict Society is a book wonderfully written by Trenton Lee Stewart. The genre of The Mysterious Benedict Society is mystery and adventure. The main settings take place in the Monk Building, which is located on Third Street, the Stone Town Orphanage and the Learning Institute for the Very Intelligent (L.I.V.E). The Monk Building is where all of the tests and challenges take place for the four children. The Stone Town Orphanage is where Reynie Muldoon lives as of the beginning of the book and where his tutor, Miss Perumal, teaches him. He has no friends and gets bullied because he is a lot smarter than an average child. One day his tutor, Miss Perumal, starts reading a newspaper and suddnely Reynie sees an ad on the newspaper that states “Are you a gifted child looking for special opportunities?”. So, he decides he should take that opportunity and follow the ad. He gets to place on the ad called the Monk Building.
There he goes through a series of mind bending and insanely difficult tasks. Near the end of the test he meets three other children named Sticky, Kate and Constance. He finds out that they were all going through the same tests and that they all refused to cheat. Each one of them used different skills and abilities to complete the series of tests that was put be forth them. At the end Mr. Benedict asks them to join with him in defeating Mr. Curtain, who is running LIVE and transmitting strange signals/messages.
