The original relationship between Noah and God is built upon faith alone. A covenant is a promise or deal with God. The Noahic Covenant is the covenant that God would never destroy earth with another flood. “I confirm my covenant with you. Never again will all …show more content…
living things be wiped out by the waters of a flood; never again will a flood destroy the earth” (Gen. 9:11). The story of Noah is that God tells him there will be a flood and that he needs to build an ark for himself, his family, and all animals. He is unsure to do this at first, but he decides to put his trust and faith in God. Their relationship is built on faith alone because he did three things that show his faith. He responded to God’s word, rebuked the world, and received God’s righteousness, which show true faith.
Even though covenants are broken, the Noahic covenant isn’t.
Noah fulfils his covenant by doing what God asks of him, which is to build an ark and take all animals and his family. He puts his trust in God and follows through with the covenant. For example, “As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, he shall die in Babylon, in the land of the king who put him on the throne, whose oath he despised and whose treaty he broke” (Ezekiel 17:16). “He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Because he had given his hand in pledge and yet did all these things, he shall not escape” (Ezekiel 17:18). These excerpts are examples of how breaking your covenant is a sin. Because he despised the oath, he broke the covenant he had with God, closing his relationship with him.
By Noah obeying the covenant made, the Noahic Covenant is restored. The Covenant was restored by God ending the storm and showing a rainbow after Noah left his ark. All Noah had to do was be faithful to God and he was. God told Noah that a storm would be coming and for him to be safe, he would have to build an ark. Without hesitating he puts his trust in God to build the
ark.
Our relationship with God can be similar to Noah’s relationship with God. Truly, we are unaware of if we are strengthening our relationship with God. Do we follow what we are suppose to do or do we not listen to what we’re suppose to do? Noah was aware of how breaking the covenant was a sin. We put our faith in God because we believe him and trust him. Compared to Ezekiel, Noah can be a better example of following through with God’s plan. Sometimes we hesitate if what God tells us to do is what we’re suppose to do, but if we trust him, we know that everything will be okay.
