The nursing and midwifery council is a statutory body which governs and regulates nurses and midwives in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The code is a key tool in safe guarding the health and well being of the public. It is the foundation of good nursing and midwifery practice. The code provides rules of conduct and defines the nurses responsibilities to patients and other healthcare professionals. It is based on autonomy, beneficence, non munificence and justice.
