Jackson is trying to convey the idea of men's superiority and how women were overlooked during the setting of the short story. During the last part of the short story, we saw how Mrs. Hutchinson was overlooked while she was trying to protest about how the draw was unfair. We also saw how women were overlooked when Mrs. Dunbar stood up to represent her family because her husband can't make it. However, Mr. Summer objected because he only wants man to be apart of the lottery officials, and tries to ignore her just because she is a female.
