The Other Side Analysis
Across the world people struggle with friendship one example of this is in the story The Other Side by Jacqueline Woodson. The Other Side takes place in a old world where being friends with another race is looked down on. In the story two girls Annie and Clover one white one African American live next door to each other and after a while they become friends. A theme from this story is friendship is important in life. I have 3 parts of the story where it was important or happened, in the beginning both of our characters are lonely, in the middle they start doing stuff together, and in the end they become friends. The first reason why friendship is important shown by this story or the beginning of the story is Annie and Clover are both lonely. One piece of evidence is neither of them really had …show more content…
One thing that starts happening is they start making eye contact, they started to see each other that is really important. After a little bit they start talking together and asking for each others names “I got close to the fence and that girl asked me for my name.” This is where the friendship might start and if neither of them had friends then their life would not be very good. A final piece of evidence is they actually sat on the fence together. Their friendship starts here. These pieces of evidence and reason show friendship is important while doing things with other people.
The last reason why friendship is important is in the story they actually become friends in the end. One thing that shows this is they played together, and friends play together. Another sign that shows they were friends is they sat together on a fence. Friends sit together Clover even says “That summer me and Annie sat on the fence. Finally at the end and in the middle a little they talked, a lot and others joined on the fence and talked with them. This all shows friendship is

The novella is set in the 1930s which was the time of the Great Depression (this is a time when there was severe economic downfall due to the Wall Street Crash). This means that it was very uncommon to sustain a friendship as migrant workers never trusted each other and life was a great struggle, but there are two characters that do have a friendship and it is shown all over the book.…

A friendship can be one of the most important relationships in someone's life becaise they are usually formed by bonds early in childhood, and they soon become stronger as the friends grow with each other. First and foremost, we will take a look at the theme of friendship in comparison to the book and the movie. In the movie, there seems to be a major focus on the value of friendship. I don 't believe the value of friendship is as notarized in the novel as it is in the movie. For instance, while Chris and Gordie (two main characters) are walking together without the companionship of Vern and Teddy (the other two), Chris asserts powerful and yet realistic words to Gordie. " 'And you know what Gordie? By next June, we 'll all be quits. '? 'It 's asshole if your friends can drag you down. '(p380-p381) " This basically says it all right here. However, if that is not enough evidence, King once again shows that friendship is not that important in this next quote: "…

A friend can be defined as someone who has feelings of affection for another. In The Chosen, by Chaim Potok, various friendships impact several people. In Freak the Mighty friendship is demonstrated many times. Between Freak and Max they show a lot of friendship as the story develops. For example, when Max helps Freak see the fireworks by putting him on his shoulder, that shows friendship. Also, when Freak helps save Max from his father, it shows friendship. These are examples of friendship because if they werent friends that wouldnt care for eachother and help eachother in these ways. This is important to the story because if they werent friends the story would not be as interesting. Some examples of this would be, Freak and Max would not go on quests if they werent friends which would make the book less interesting. Also, when Freak dies the reader may not feel as much emotion because it…

In both Lord of the Flies by William Golding and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck evident components of friendship are persuaded throughout the storyline, particularly in Lennie and George’s friendship in Of Mice and Men and Ralph and Piggy’s friendship in Lord of the Flies. In both books the authors focus on the natural dependence human beings have on each other. Of particular importance is the bond the characters share being outsiders, the dependence they have on one another, the respect they share, the theme of survival, the sacrifice that comes with love and the contrast in their personalities.…

Without my friends, it would make my life a million times harder. Some bad things I go through are directly related to my friends, but it’s all worth it to me. These friends have taught me many lessons throughout my life. A close friend of mine died a while back. It made me realize how I shouldn’t take things for granted and to always be nice to others. An example of this in Of Mice and Men is if George hadn’t made Lennie feel like a reject had invited him to horseshoes then he would’ve never killed Curley’s wife. This is a horrible way for George to learn that he has to always put others before himself, but it is a lesson he will never ever forget. In the end George and Lennie were there for each other. In my opinion that is the definition of friendship. It made them learn new things and reach for new goals just like what I share with my…

As much as humans like to control their own lives, there are many aspects that are outside of our control. For example, we do not choose the families into which we are born or the places where we grow up. The same is sometimes true of friendships. Some friends we choose because we identify them as people who are similar to us and because they offer us something we want. Occasionally, however, we make unexpected friends. For example, a young person bumps into someone at the library who is crying because she has lost an important paper she was writing for school. As a result, the two become friends and learn that helping people through tough times is at the core of strong relationships.…

Friendship has many definitions, however, they are mainly about friends supporting each other, being selfless, and being respectful. Friendship is demonstrated with support, selflessness, and respect among friends. Friendship means supporting and caring for one another during tough times and absences. In Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie, who have been friends since childhood, embark on a journey to find work on a ranch when George and Lennie finally discover one, a man working there tells George that he has "never seen one guy take so much trouble for another guy” (Steinbeck 29). Individuals at the ranch are surprised to witness mutual care and support between George and Lennie during tough times, particularly during the Great Depression, and it shows that the quote highly…

Many times, it is debated as to what the most important quality of friendship is. Some say it is kindness, while some say it is trust. In the story Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck uses the similar relationships between George and Lennie and Candy and his dog, as well as their mistakes, to say that thinking of others before oneself is the most important part of a friendship. Thus, Of Mice and Men creates a parallel between the friendships between George and Lennie and Candy and his dog in order to suggest the value of selflessness in friendship.…

Tina’s character allowed viewers' reactions to the issues of classism. Many were offended claiming that this is not a positive representation of who Latinos and African Americans.
