The Parable of the Eagle ( Reflection)
An Eagle is regarded as a symbol of courage and power because of its large size and superb aerial skills. However in the parable, the eagle was made to believe that he was just a chicken and that he could not fly high and therefore he must just act like a chicken, after all he learned to eat chicken feed and to behave as chickens behave and was confined to live in the barnyard with the chickens. His inherent capacity and capability were temporarily hampered by the lies that were fed on him for quite a long time. But in the end, he was able to free himself from the fabricated story fed on him because he listened to the advice from a person, the naturalist, that he could fly because of his being an eagle, and so he flew superbly high in the sky. Sometimes, people are like that of the eagle in the parable. Scientifically, we are born champion because out of the million sperms cells from our father, only one sperm cell was able to meet the egg cell of our mother and fertilization occurred. After nine months each of us was born…a champion was born. Biblically speaking, we were made in the image of God. We have that capacity, capability and potential to excel in whatever endeavor we are into. However, there are factors that could hinder us from attaining our full capacity, capability and potential like poverty, physical defects, family problems, people around us who would discourage us from attaining our dreams, to name a few.But just like the parable of an eagle who was helped by the naturalist, there are people around us who can be likened to the naturalist like our parents and loved ones who inspire, support and encourage us, Professors who train us, shape us, and give us the necessary knowledge and skills in the particular course we have chosen, and above all there is God who can make a way for us when there seems to be no way. So what we need to do is to stop thinking of ourselves as someone we are not; we must not be pessimistic; rather we must be optimistic, we

Henry Ward Beecher was quite wise in saying that, “Greatness lies, not in being strong, but in the right using of strength; and strength is not used rightly when it serves only to carry a man above his fellows for his own solitary glory. He is the greatest whose strength carries up the most hearts by the attraction of his own”. In other words, in order to be great, you do not need to be powerful; you just need to know how to use your power appropriately. This quote is valid since strength accomplishes greatness when everyone benefits, rather than just an individual. This phenomenon is illustrated in the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding where the characters, in their own ways,…

“In literature, evil often triumphs, but never conquers” in famous novels like “Speak” by Laurie Halse Anderson or “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. The evil is considered the major issues brought upon the protagonists by the antagonists (when comparing these two novels), such as the character of Andy Evans in Speak and Bob Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird. However, the protagonists always found a way to conquer with the good, and will always shine brighter than the evil.…

The Eagle a classic work of literature with a simplistic tone and theme being the analysis of an eagle prowling and taking flight. Figurative language such as "with crooked hands," "close to the sun," "the wrinkled sea beneath him crawls. " "He clasps the crag with crooked hands." Poems are riddled with figurative language, and The Eagle is no exception, personified objects and animals are the easiest way to relate to anybody. As if an eagle could have hands rather than the talons that birds are a custom to having. "…

In “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe, the speaker is continually losing his mind as he morns the death of his lover, Lenore. Poe was able to maintain a melancholy feeling throughout his poem using the refrain “nevermore” and following some very strict, self-set, rules. Every stanza in the poem uses the same rhyme scheme, ABCBBB. He used many literary devices including alliteration, assonance, and onomatopoeia. His rhythm is also very structured and unwavering.…

The Bible is filled with a wide variety of heroic figures who possess extraordinary qualities that seemingly enable them to perform exceptional acts. For this reason, many find them unrelatable and thus, do not strive to emulate their example. However, Biblical characters have flaws and traits that are no different than what average people have to offer. Instead, it is through God that a person can become a hero. By being able to connect with exceptional individuals such as Gideon, Esther, and James, one understands how God can use anyone to achieve His sovereign will and, as a result, be a hero.…

As faith becomes more scarce in society, people willing to die loyal to their beliefs are few, so to witness communities willing to do so in the immense love and respect they have for their religion truly refreshes the soul. Hence, when Sophocles, in his work, Antigone, represented Antigone as a faithful sister willing to die for her brother, he wanted people to follow in her footsteps in order to learn how to learn to love unconditionally. This outlook of sacrificing life for faith and love should challenge society to honestly reexamine all current relationships in order to determine whether or not one’s love is real. Additionally, it also brings to question the power of love.…

Part A: Learning the different literary lenses will help further my ability to thoroughly analyze the literature I read. As seen with the examples used throughout the seminar presentations sometimes a certain critical theory can be used more successful for certain pieces of text. Having the knowledge of the many different ways there is to analyze a text I can choose one that will be more accurate. Also, in many cases you can use a bunch of different lenses to analyze one text, but being able to see the different views can help build a more detailed understanding. Although I was somewhat aware of certain lenses such as marxist or feminist theory a lot of the theories were completely new to me and something I hadn’t even considered. Now knowing how much the biography of the author or even the way the way the environment…
